I need to buy a 9×12 rug for our living room and am overwhelmed. There are a few I like from Pottery Barn, but I've been reading online that the quality is not great. Same with Overstock, Rugs USA, etc. Reading about bad latex backing, shedding, etc. Where do you get your rugs? TIA!

Oh I am in the same boat! I feel like 8x10 rugs are a dime a dozen and I need a 9x12 - 10x14. I want to spend $1500 or less. @juno if you have any ideas I'm looking at www.rugstudio.com

Great info @juno, thanks! Yea, I'm not looking for an investment rug right now. I have 2 small children and a large shedding dog. Our last rug has lasted 7 years and it is DONE. But I vacuum daily (buh-bye rug fibers) so I'm okay with that.
Yeah, nice rugs are an investment. But I wouldn't let pets or children be a sole determining factor. The more you're willing to spend (up to a point, there is a threshold over which I wouldn't walk on them), the more indestructible they seem to be. We have two dogs, and dh has dumped red wine on my beige rug, and it wiped up with water without a trace. As for day to day dirt, with a good professional washing mine look brand new.
I'll just add my ditto to this while I'm here. If the budget itsn't there, it isn't there. But I've got one woven and one handknotted rug in my house that my mom bought when I was about 12. My sister was 7. We had a dog and three cats and lived on a farmette and they were in the living room and under the kitchen/dining table (open floor plan). I'm now 32, with a toddler and an overactive dog who likes to countersurf and then eat his findings on the living room rug (the woven one), and these rugs still look brand new after a good cleaning. Even after just a vacuuming they look fantastic. They wear like IRON. I was thrilled when my mom offered them to me after she downsized to a smaller house.
