As I was hauling the babies out to my car tonight in their bucket seats, I started to wonder how the hell am I going to do this when they are bigger and/or out grow the infant seats.
How do you all handle drop off and pick up once they are too heavy to carry in their seat and aren't walking yet? Carry both in arms? Use a stroller?
We go to a in home daycare twice a week, so I park in the drive way and take one in at a time. I lock the car doors between run-ins. I'm not sure how I would do it if it were a center. Probably just carry each in my arms or buy really cheap umbrella strollers so it's easy to pop open and closed.
We start at a home daycare next week and have had one test day. That day I parked in the driveway and brought one in at a time. I know I can take one out of her seat, carry her to the other side of the car, rest her on the floor of the other side of the car, unbuckle the other girl and carry both in together as I've done that at my husband's office. I guess we'll see what ends up happening. My girls can walk but I don't trust them yet.
We're still using the bucket seats (and not in daycare right now, but we do go out similar places alone), but this is getting close so unthinking about it. Probably I will wear one and either carry the other in arms if it's a short distance or put the other in a cheap single stroller. I've done the wear one carry one free thing to get into target and it works.
I don't go anywhere close enough to the parking to bring them in one at a time as others suggested.
With twins I'd probably use a an ergo and a little stroller. A double stroller seems too big for such a short errand. My kids aren't twins so it was easier. I would talk out my younger child and strap him in to the stroller and then I'd get my bigger kids out who would walk or ride on a board on the stroller.
I don't do daycare but I have a joovy twinroo stroller that's basically a fancy snap N go. It's pretty awesome and maneuvers really well for a snap n go.
It's a pain in the ass. My kids' daycare is in a church and it feels like a game of tetrus to get them in and out everyday. There are three coded doors, a set of stairs and two hallways. My twins just turned one and are both 24 pounds; add on the 10 pounds for the car seats it sucks. But, I take one out and put them in the first door. Grab the other. Go back and get my DD and their lunches. I move one twin to the bottom of the steps, get the other one until we get to their room.
On pick-up one of the teachers helps me carry them out. Honestly, that is probably your best bet. See if you can call ahead of time to have a teacher come out to meet you.

The twin roo was my favorite twin centeric baby purchase. I was a little sad when the girls out grew being happy in the infant seats and basically insisted on a stroller they could see more in.

I have the Joovy Twin Roo too and we love it! i'm just thinking its a bit cumbersome to get out for in and out of daycare. It would be a bit difficult to get through all the doors (none have the handicap button to open them).
I tried wearing one baby then only carrying one car seat. That was a bit easier so may end up doing that more.
This sucked so much. I carried those buckets until they were at the very limit for weight. Our daycare at the time had a narrow sidewalk and a step up into the door, plus MN winters, there was no way I could use a stroller. I just brought one in at a time. I hated leaving one in the car, but I had my eyes on them the whole time. One of the daycare teachers would meet me at the door, take one, then I would go back for the other.
When their infant carseats got too heavy for me to carry both of them in, I switched to putting one in a carrier and one in a lightweight cheap-o stroller. When my husband did drop-offs, he would carry one and use the stroller for the other one. I"m soooo soo soo soo glad we are past that stage! It was such a hassle.
I would stick the car seats on the snap n go for quick trips in and out of daycare. Once they were in convertible seats I gave up on the idea of a stroller for daycare pick up drop off. Instead I get the kid from the passenger side first, carry him around to the driver side, wedge him (standing) between my legs and the car, and get the other out of his seat. Then I grab each by the hand and walk them inside.
