On the housing lady during our pre-move inspection. She showed up a half hour early without warning and starting insinuating that we were going to be charged to fix the giant carpet stain in the living room that was documented at move in. She told me to have my husband (who is out of town) to call back. They're about to find out that I have a power of attorney now that I didn't have a couple weeks ago.
So yes, I yelled at her (screamed, maybe) and she left. I'm that customer.

Fuuuck it the power of attorney only talks about household goods. That's the second thing I have found missing from this document already. I do have a general but I'm not sure they'll look at it.
If Its documented on move in, they can't use that as a basis for carpet replacement. That's why you do the move in inspections! I'm sorry they suck. :-(

Okay. Against mine and everyone else's better judgement I put clothes on and went over there with all my paperwork. I spoke to a different lady who promised me we would not be charged for anything that was noted on the move in forms. We're going to schedule our pre-inspection for tomorrow and hopefully that goes well. I'm still pissed off about the carpet cleaning and foggers, just on principle. I finally found the mention of carpet cleaning and foggers halfway down the second page of bullet points in the resident manual, which is referred to in general terms in the lease. It's very poorly organized. By the time you get to the end of the second page about noise complaints and keeping your pet leashed it's hard to catch the "oh, by the way this is what you have to do before you move out."
Instead of reading the giant manual when we signed the lease we asked the lady about the carpet policies verbally and what she told us was inaccurate. So, sucks to be us because we can't prove what she said but they can prove what's in their handbook. I was already on defense from that so when the lady showed up early to my door and started making insinuations I lost my top.
You had me at "showed up a half our early without warning." Someone showing up a half hour early with no notice would NOT make it into my house. My kiddo is napping.

My kiddo was nearly naked and had been crying. I was starving because I have to wait a while after my meds to eat and I was planning to eat right at the 30 minute before mark. I was also in my underwear and a night gown.
I've had people call and ask if they could show up early so there really is no excuse.
Showing up early and ruining mealtime alone would have put me on edge, so I don't really blame you for losing it. Of course I get really cranky when I'm hungry. Hangry?

Housing people can be such assholes.
They scheduled our preinspection and I asked if we could do it like a day or two later so I could clean a bit and they were like "We're not concerned about mess, just want to look for major issues."
Then when the dude showed up, gave me the stink eye the entire time and made a mile long list of things to do including basic cleaning items.
Asshole, I TOLD YOU to wait 2 days. And my housing move-out inspections are ALWAYS impeccable, so suck on it, jerkwad.
Update, though. We had a redo today with a different housing lady and things went wayyyyy better. She looked around, told me exactly what I need to do in order to qualify for the cleaning program we had previously discussed and everything was all good.
My new problem is that DH got a much awaited ORDMOD today and they fucking referenced the JFTR THREE TIMES. Do you idiots not realize that the JTR is now the official reference? Copy and paste is a great way to get through your day but dear God you still have to double check your work. And because their office is on the East Coast and I'm in Hawaii I get to duke it out with the local office this afternoon and just hope they don't raise a stink. They should hopefully be well versed in their references. Either way I looked up what I believe to be the appropriate JTR paragraphs so hopefully I can get this damn show on the road. It makes me sick to my stomach to be this close to leaving and have everything arranged except for our HHG pack out and POV storage. Shit takes time on this island and I have a preference for what company I want to do my pack out. I do not need another nightmare pack out like I had at our last duty station.

Moving out of housing is such an ordeal when it doesn't have to be. I'm willing to bet that 90% of the people that live in housing aren't complete slobs, so I don't get why the employees are always so annoyed to do what is part of their job.

And DH just sent me a text reminding me to let PPO staff know that their boss is the same person my husband works for, who I am on a first name basis with. I don't know if I'm comfortable with that....
I doubt YH would have told you to do that if it would be particularly inappropriate.
I think CO might have mentioned it to DH before that he wanted to know if anyone was having trouble with PPO. I'm having trouble remembering but it sounds like something he might say.

The part that annoys me is that they nitpick every little thing so it's ready for the new tenants, but hen have a full cleaning crew come in anyway.

The housing we lived in in San Diego only ever brought in painting crews, and it was so obvious that the units were never completely clean.
When we moved in, I found a carton of sugar in the cabinet. It was half full and painted over. I then found earring studs in the bathroom and master, so that had never even been vacuumed, and I found other people's socks under the dryer. The carpet was filthy and there was a leak in the bathtub that had been there, but someone just painted over where it was showing. I noticed it the second day we were there and when they opened the ceiling, it was soaked.
I don't know if all the locations in SD were like that, but ours was. And this was supposed to be the nice housing.

If that's not the nice housing, I want to see what is! Lol at the painted over sugar. Our last civilian apartment did the same. While our rented SFH has its quirks and was filthy and broken when we moved in, I much prefer it to a business run rental.
The REALLY nice housing was on the MCAS, but the wait list was something like 18 months. I could see why. They were all detached, had two car private garages, and full sized front and backyards. Gorgeous.

I just got home from PPO again and now they're keeping everything on island but they don't have a contract for POV storage on island so we have to locate a company, pay them out of pocket monthly and supposedly get reimbursed when my husband comes back. UGGGGHH. I am not having any Navy love today. The one company I trust i already called and they said they have no space to store a vehicle. All I can think of now is to call every moving company and maybe the companies at the shipping terminal (like they have any extra space lololol) to find someone.

Someone told me they moved into Navy housing here and found a painted over gecko on the wall. I'm like....really?! Usually when they're on the wall they're, you know, alive to start with.
It totally does. It's a high population density island. Nobody wants to spend precious space on vehicle storage. There are more profitable ways to use space. The company I called told us to look into airport long term parking (?!). People on Facebook were like, call storage companies and such-and-such company might have storage spaces big enough to fit a car (yeah, I don't want to know how expensive that is going to be considering the rate for a storage space here that would fit maybe a dozen file boxes). Another company was recommended (but check to make sure they have insurance because a few years ago they were storing fireworks and the bunker exploded and killed some people)......and apparently none of these places actually, you know, check on the car to make sure it's not growing a mongoose nest or to run the car or check fluid levels. None of that.
I reeeeeally don't want to sell the car because it is low mileage for its age and we're almost done paying the loan off so basically we have not gotten anywhere near the value/usage out of the car that I would like even in comparison to the high market value here on island. Plus, rentals are expensive and when DH returns he needs a vehicle probably for a couple months.
I wanted to work on cleaning and organizing my house today and maybe buying my kid some nice clothes for his pictures next week. Gahhh.

OMG. The one place anyone has recommended that is full service and actually dedicated towards vehicle storage normally charges $1800 for 6 months and we need 12 months. Supposedly they are running a special right now, though, only $900 for 6 months. Like I need an extra $150 bill every month that I just have to pray the Navy will reimburse like they say they will. I feel like I want something in writing from PPO. Maybe the CO can get that for us....

YES. Get that crap in writing. And see if there's a reg with a max amount that's reimbursed.
I love you you're so right. I'm all buddy buddy with the JTR anyhow. I should apply for a job.

lol JK.
Navy housing is real hit or miss. Here they were like, hey you want the half price housing? We're about to tear it down but you can live there for a little bit if you want......geee thanks. No thanks.

Hmm. JTR is not very forthcoming with details but I still feel like I want to know. Apparently the local MWR Auto shop has a limited amount of storage so I will look into that since hopefully it will not cost an arm and a leg. I just really hope it's not the area next to the auto shop that's fenced in with temporary chain link fence and a padlock. Cause....great.
2. Gov’t -procured Storage Not Available. The member arranges POV storage at a commercial storage facility and is reimbursed for the actual storage costs when: a. Gov’t-procured storage: (1) Is not available, or (2) Has not been designated, or b. The member is instructed by the shipping/transportation officer to store the POV at personal expense,
Edit: Plus if MWR has POV storage then why in the fuckity fuck would the PPO office, which is located 1000 yards away not know that.
Maybe that's why our house was yucky. It was actually Navy housing.
lol JK.
Girl please. I don't know about 29, but our housing at CP (and by our I mean H's since we were unmarried during the dark ages of our relationship where I still had to get a sponsored visitor sheet) was the worst! M & L managed to make their houses look great but you know I've zero domestic skills and I still have nightmares about the laundry room.
We were the first tenants in the refurbished unit in 29, but the off base housing? Dear god it was awful. They had swamp coolers. You know when monsoon season is in 29? The summer. You know what doesn't work for shit in high humidity environments? Swamp coolers. Lol
They've redone that housing now and I'd actually live there, but it was a hot mess 9 years ago.

Holy shit, 9 years...
Wow. The only place I've ever lived that had a swamp cooler was my parents' house as a little kid. But the climate there was very dry during the summer. If it rained it rained for 5 minutes and flooded all the roads.

Oh 29 flooded quite nicely too. There was one day it was so bad, they closed the only 2 main roads in town. Thankfully we lived on base so H was able to get home but other people were stuck where they were for like 5 hours.
