IMO mods should delete by request of the OP, even if some people think it's dumb (b/c flames have happened, etc). JMO.
I agree with this. I think we should be able to delete threads we've started (or have the mods delete them) regardless of reason. Mods deleting threads based on personal info could get tricky depending on what some consider personal info. Also, people will be less willing to post things if they know they won't be able to DD.
I can see this argument too. This is how TN worked.
I just want the rule to be clear so no one is mad at me or Womet for deleting a juicy flame-broiled thread at the OP's request.

Right, this was basically what I was trying to say too. The definition of "personal information" varies by person. Some people may not worry about having details of their marital problems out there, while others will want that DDed and probably won't post at all if they can't. I would hate to have people refrain from posting interesting threads (or from posting things where they actually will benefit from talking about it and getting our input to help them) because they don't fit some definition of personal information and can't be DDed.
Sorry, but I also don't trust everyone not to quote me in a thread I would plan to edit, KWIM?
I know I'm in the minority here so this may not fly, but I think that if the OP wants a thread deleted, it should be deleted. I think most of us "regulars" know better than to delete a post for flaming anyway. It is usually just the random newbies who do that. I think that if a person is not comfortable with their personal information being out there (by whatever definition of personal they follow), then it shouldn't stay out there.
I definitely think DDing should be allowed - I almost posted a work related thread last night and decided against it since I'd want to take it down after getting answers and knew it would be hard to do.
I also don't think the mods should delete "vote for my kid" threads unless they get spammy - like the person is posting in other threads asking for votes or posting several times a day. This doesn't seem to really be an issue anyway and I think it is kind of rude to just delete those without warning.
Other than that, I think to a point they should just use good judgement. If a thread is getting really out of hand then they should intervene. I don't think that happens very often either (unless the Nest was taking care of this without my knowledge) so I really think it can be a case by case basis. I don't know Pixi (is that a new name?) but I trust Womet's judgement and find it unlikely our mods are going to power trip and start deleting things unreasonably.
I agree with all of this.
If there isn't the option to DD at the posters request I think MM will get boring fast. There are tons of things people want opinions on but don't want to have online forever.
Y4M-- should we create a separate post with the MM-approved rules? I know that I will be bookmarking it for my own use, but it will also be easier for folks to reference a post with the rules rather than this post which contains all sorts of views. Thoughts?
I'm good with allowing OPs to request a thread to be deleted. But we all have to understand that anything that is posted on a public message board on the internet can live in perpetuity. We've all seen it on the TN - someone will re-post something they copied from a post before it was deleted. Hopefully that's understood by everyone, and they don't get a false sense of security. Nothing is private once it is posted on the internet.
So sounds like we're leaning toward letting OPs request deletion of any thread they started, the way TN worked. Any strong objections?
This is my preference. But, because this post has only been up for an hour or two I think we should let afternoon/nighttime posters weigh in before it becomes a board rule. Don't want there to be any grumbling about people not having their say.
Maybe to expedite, you could make a poll that "this seems to be the way the board is leaning, do you agree" to clarify the discussion moving forward.
Agree that you guys are doing a great job as mods.
- all "spam" (vote for me, blogs, etc) - in sig only - major changes by majority (51%) vote - delete threads only if they contain personal info that was quoted. No deleting for flaming

Yes I totally agree. We can pin it up there.
So to summarize--Mods will delete: -Obvious spam -Malicious posting of personal information -Extreme offensive material (N-word, pornographic pics in the thread, etc.) -Any thread at the OP's request
Adding new subboards is frowned upon, but possible with mod approval and 50%+ approval by the board. (Note - personally I might make this 60% to discourage it).
Pimping blogs, etsy sites, votes should be done in sigs rather than posts. But it's not the mods priority to police that. Nor is it our priority to move Makeup or baby posts into their proper subboards.
Is that along the right lines?
Should we be more specific about extreme offensive material?

Looks good Y4M - my only last thing, which I don't really care about, is whether there is a cutoff for that 50% vote (or 60% vote). Sometimes voting can swing significantly, so I think we should maybe have a 48 hour voting period and then it stops, or something like that?

Agreed. I like 48 hours, pinned at top, at least for something like adding a subboard.
There could be other things that need a quicker reaction where 48 hours is not feasible--not sure what, but trying to anticipate anything. We'll do our best to get a reasonable amount of feedback in those cases.
A thread should be deleted at a OP's request. Asking not to be quoted doesn't work, and I don't want to miss out on some drama because OP is afraid it will be out there forever.
Proboards does support these I think, but you may have to custom add it to the board.
It's possible to add a custom spoiler tag, but it doesn't work on the app.
It's probably ok for NSFW/porn then, but not spoilers.
In the unlikely event that someone posts full on porn right in a thread, I hereby reserve the right to edit it into a link that you can view if you want.

I agree with this. An no questions ask/reasons why (unlike TN). We shouldn't have to justify why we want our OPs deleted, if our goal is to be a self-supporting, self-monitoring board. Most MM regs don't usually DD because of flames, but because of personal info and privcay anyway.
This. I would not want to share anything personal if I didn't have the option to DD.

I'm okay with deleting posts at OP's request. There have been anonymous AE posts on TN that the OP still wanted DDed especially when dealing with budgets or touchy subjects like an unplanned pregnancy. I'm sure some people won't be happy if someone comes along and simply wants the post deleted because of a flaming, but the good outweighs the bad IMO.
I'm ok with everything Y4M posted as well as the mods right to add a NSFW to a title (which I'd REALLY appreciate!!!) or edit anything obviously gratiutous into a linky.
