This premiered last night on ABC, two episodes actually. I only caught the first one. Did anyone else watch? What did you think? There has been some controversy surrounding the show, with some people finding it overly stereotyped. I mostly thought it was funny and liked the mom the best.
I'm sort of on the fence about it. I LOVE that there's an Asian-American family featured on a sitcom - it's about time! I didn't find it particularly funny but I want to give it a chance.
I'm hoping as the season progresses the show improves some as the actors get more comfortable. I can relate as a child of parents who emigrated to the U.S. from another country.

I think it is interesting, but I felt a little bad watching some of it. Like it was making jobs out of sterotypes that I shouldn't find funny as a white person. I am not sure if that makes sense or makes me sound ridiculous.
I thought it was pretty funny. At first I thought people would be outraged but now that I know it's based on an Asian-Americans memoir, I found it to be more acceptable and funny.
Even though this was started a few weeks ago as a follow up:
The more I watch it the more I like it. I think it is funny for a multitude of reasons from the kinda shady but hip grandma to the strict mom and a funny dad the family dynamic is related to myself.
My mom is an immigrant from Korean and my Grandma was a lot like theirs coupled with the fact I grew up in the 90s it is kind of like looking back to my childhood.
