I was originally planning on wearing my running shoes to go on hiking trips but I know we'll want to go into water falls which wouldn't be feasible with running shoes. So I've started looking into Keens and the like. Are there any that serve the purpose, comfortable and easy on the eyes? TIA!
I think keens are incredibly fugly, but they're likely your best bet.
I agree 100% on the fugliness! I suppose in this case function wins over fashion.
BTW, I love your blog, have been a long time reader. And I freaking  Hello Kitty. They make these collegiate ones now and I just got a Virginia Tech (my alma mater) HK! I'm planning on bringing her to Maui with me and taking daily pics of her at various locations. Cheesy but I love it!
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain

I love my Keens and don't think they're fugly . But then again I'm from Oregon where Keens are from, so that's how we roll. They are super comfortable and the best bet for hiking esp when water is involved.

every word of your reply is freaking awesome. every. last. word.
Chaco's are the best! I think Keens are kinda fug too, but Chaco's look fine to me. Tevas bothered me if I hiked in them wet, but maybe it's just my feet. I totally recommend the toe strap Z2's if you go with them.
