Eyeliner application for dummies

On the very rare occasions when I use eyeliner (typically UD 24/7 pencil), I have a thin line of eyelid showing between the line and my lashes. That's not right, right? Do you have tips for applying?

Kore promised me a video, but then you all went defunct!

Honestly, it just takes practice. Now that I've been using it for a few years I'm MUCH better at applying it.

I don't have any specific video recs by search YouTube for either TiffianyD or MakeupGeek, I their videos a lot.

Pratice and I have to slightly pull my eyelid taught. Then just a steady hand and keep it close to the lashes.

I also put on my eyeline before eyeshadow b/c my eyelids are so oily, so if I do mess-up, it's no biggie to smudge it out and start over.

This happens to me sometimes if my liner is too sharp, or especially with a liquid eyeliner.
What I'll usually do is try to go back in and fill it in by getting a little closer to the lash line. If that doesn't work, I take an eyeliner brush and smudge it just a bit to soften the line and blend it down. I've even filled in with the same brush and a dark/similar shade of shadow to fill it in.

Hopefully someone else has advice for clean lines - I am not good at a sharp line, so I'm always rocking a slightly smoky look.

Yes! This is basically how I solve it. But I know people are capable of this--just maybe not me!

Pulling the eyelid does help for me, but I'm always afraid I'm stretching out the delicate skin and causing premature wrinkles.

I tightline almost every day, which means that you run the eyeliner under your lashes, on your waterline. It kind of looks like you aren't wearing liner, but it makes your eyes pop. Google techniques on youtube.

If you are just starting out, be sure you're sitting down and propping your elbow up on the counter as you're applying it.

Maybe try a lighter shade? I also don't stretch my eye. Just a light layer on my closed lid. I have a brown for day that I think is Maybelline.

I actually think the easiest kind is the pencil that does not sharpen. You just twist the side and it comes out.

I like these also, but I feel like I have to be more exact? Much better than a regular pencil though.

I agree with maybe it was the color. Start with either dark brown or charcoal.

Get thee to Sephora! I was very intimated by liquild liners, but I adore them now!! The s/a showed me how to use it with out it looking bad.

Now THIS freaks me the heck out. The makeup artist lined my waterline for my friend's wedding, and it even kind of freaked me out when he did it. But I don't know that I can do that to myself.

I definitely need to get someone to show me how to use eyeliner. I am SO remedial it's not even funny.

You have to get used to it because it tickles at first, which can make you flinch and poke yourself in the eye. I learned how to use eyeliner that way at first, so it doesn't bother me at all. Just don't use waterproof because it won't dissolve if some gets in your eye.

I think it helps to start out with a light brown or grey color until you can get better at applying it.
