No. Kristen was a surprise, and with Cambria, I went in for something unrelated, a yearly, maybe, and decided to go ahead and have them remove my IUD while they were at it. So we just had a review of things, got a prenatal script, and I THINK I may have had my thyriod levels checked. But I need to have that done every year, and every trimester when pregnant, anyway.

No. All my physicals/paps were normal before TTC so I figured it was unnecessary. I had bloodwork done at my 12 week appt, which is standard at my clinic.

I hate that book. Try the Mayo Guide to Pregnancy. Much less alarmist while still being informative and helpful.

To answer your question, though, no I didn't. This baby was a surprise. It's probably not a bad idea to get a regular checkup, though.

I did. But I get yearly checkups anyway so I am not sure it was something special.

No. At my annual gyn visit I told them we were going to start trying and he said ok, you are good to go. Lol.

I think the dentist is recommended because going to the dentist while pregnant can be rough. I had horrible morning sickness and the thought of going to the dentist made me throw up. By the time the ms was gone, my gums bled everyday like I'd never brushed my teeth before, and flossing made me swell up like crazy. It was gross.

I did. It included a mammogram which I would not have been able to have for another 2 years at least (if I decided to breast feed) and blood work. All the normal stuff you would have at an annual check up.

ETA: I forgot to say I knew I would be signing up with a special mommy wellness type program through my insurance and you had to have specific dr.'s/dentist visits at specific times to get the $ credit through the program so I wanted to time all the exams correctly for insurance purposes too.

I went to my annual ob/gyn appt before TTC both kids. I had to go the 2nd time around to get my IUD taken out anyway and to talk to my dr about when I could start TTC.

I started taking a folic acid supplement about three months before TTC.

I also went to the dentist to get a check-up and cleaning before.

If you take medicine, you might want to check with your doctor before you TTC. I had to give up one of my asthma medicines.

Kind of. I went in for my yearly and I always get bloodwork done at that appointment. I told my doctor then that we were ready to TTC and she gave me a prescription for pre-natal vitamins and a little talk on when to have sex, lol.

Oh, I just re-read - I did not go to the dentist. Not for the purpose of a pre-TTC checkup anyway.

I did the OB visit, told them I was TTC and asked if there was anything I needed to do. They were like, nah, just get to fuckin. So, I was kind of pissed when I got my initial pregnancy bloodwork done and they were all, oh yeah, your rubella booster expired like 4 years ago lulz.

Yes except the dentist thing because I go every 6 months but IMO blood work is important a they check for rubella immunity, and other important stuff.

If you get regular checkups, you are probably fine. But I found it was helpful when my docs knew I was TTC. I made sure I was up to date on my vaccines (Tdap and flu vaccine especially!) Bloodwork could be beneficial to make sure your other immunities are up to date. I also started prenatal vitamins 3 months in advance.

The only reason the dentist might be beneficial is if you haven't had xrays in awhile and are due for a routine cleaning. You can't get xrays while pregnant.

It's a good idea to get the dentist out of the way. I had bloodwork to see if I had immunity to chicken pox and they checked my husband and I to see if we had markers for cystic fibrosis (rec by my gyn). I would also recommend getting a pap smear before because I had mine while pregnant and the spotting really worried me. I liked What to Expect. I don't think the advice to get a physical is really alarmist.

No, I just had a regular OBGYN checkup and basic bloodwork. I also went into it expecting problems, or I might have just done the checkup.

That book is crazy, but yes I had a check up before TTC the first time. Dentist I would highly recommend. You don't want to need a root canal (and the accompanying medications) during pregnancy or nursing and pregnancy can really affect your teeth.

Yes, because I was overly anxious about TTC and it was something I could do in the months before we actually started.

It wasn't a big deal; mostly I went to get all of my vaccines up to date well before I got pregnant. The MMR hurts like a mofo.

No, I didn't. I had gone to the dentist regularly and my gyno about 4 months prior and my work had done a general health eval (bloodwork, etc) 9 months prior. I think I was perfectly fine.

FYI, my ob told me that in my state (Ohio) it's required for a pap to be done during pregnancy. Doesn't matter how long it's been since you've had one. I asked because I had one in Nov for my annual and then got a bfp and had one in March again.

I agree with the PP's, that book stressed me the eff out!! Take the advice in the book with a grain of salt. I had to go in for a check up because I have some underlying health issues. I agree on the dentist stuff but that is about it.

I had my annual exam a couple of months ago and told my dr that we will be TTC sometime this year. She said I was good to go.

When I had my annual exam with my family doctor before TTC, I mentioned it. She did a little extra blood work to check my cholesterol and triglycerides and iron and such. She also gave me names of OBs because I had never seen one.

She mentioned she thought it'd be a good idea to do the extra blood work because, among other things, if we'd had trouble conceiving then the blood work might reveal some possibilities why. I'm not a doctor, so I just said 'yeah, ok.' It all came back good.

I did because I switched obgyns specifically bc i was going to ttc and mine was not available a lot. You're supposed to avoid going to the dentist while pg if you can. Same with eye doctor.
