I'm a Pestie from long, long ago and am back for some advice.
My 5-ish year old pittie is battling colitis. He's (thankfully) acting perfectly normal - playful, energetic, no urgency to go outside - but is having blood and mucous on his rear after going #2.
We went to the vet three weeks ago and started flagyl for a week. Halfway through that week he wasn't doing better so we switched to a homemade chicken/rice diet along with pumpkin and yogurt. After a week of that there was little improvement so he started on additional antibiotics (2 kinds this time), probiotics and Hill's Prescription W/D food. He has finished the antibiotics, so I started to try and transition him back to his regular food and it's back to where we started with the blood.
He is currently eating Acana, which is what I've fed him since we got him 3 years ago. At this point, I don't want to feed him that canned crap anymore, so I think I need a new food. Any recommendations? Or advice for what I should be looking for in terms of fat/fiber/etc.?

my pittie mix has battled colitis off and on. she did the flagyl which helped initially, but i kept her on orijen (same company as acana - good choice! and added fortiflora probiotics and she cleared up.
maybe try a different food? can you try a different protein source within the acana brand? or maybe try an orijen food with a different protein source?
those are the only things i can think of. hope this helps somewhat!

rosiedozie i do the regular adult formula, it seems to sit best with her stomach. she has a lot of food allergies and sensitivities and it's the only food that's never given her any issues.
