Upper Darby Mom Leaves Kids Home Alone in Front Yard The two boys were covered in dirt and bug bites, authorities say.
A mother is charged with child endangerment after police say she left her two children home alone in the yard of their Upper Darby home while she went to work, reports the Delaware County Daily Times.
Police say the boys, ages 2 and 5, were found in the yard of the Snowden Road home with bug bites and dirty, according to the paper.
Authorities believe the boys were outside for nearly six hours before police arrived to an empty house -- except for mice and roaches.
They hadn’t eaten all day,” Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood tells the Delco Times. “To live in that condition and that filth, there was no one there to care for them.
Their mom, Leiny Barrera-Sacreno, 26, was at work in Paoli when the children were found. She says her cousin was supposed to be watching them that day.
Chitwood tells the Times that he doesn’t believe Barrera-Sacreno left the children in the care of any one.
The boys were taken to Delaware County Hospital to be examined before they were turned over to Youth Services, the Times reports. Mom is free on bail pending her preliminary hearing.

Makes me sad. I wonder the same thing about some of the kids in my neighborhood. They're always outside and I never see their parents. One girl will climb into other people's cars if left unlocked. I even witnessed her peeing in my yard once. I have no idea where she lives and she speaks very little English, so she doesn't understand me when I ask where her parents are. I worry about her :/

Ugh.
Last weekend, we were standing outside my dad's house in the afternoon chatting with the neighbors when we noticed a little boy (2 or 3) in a shirt and diaper walking down the sidewalk alone. The little boy started walking down the middle of the street so the closest person, the neighbor, ran out and grabbed him. TEN MINUTES LATER his mom comes around the corner in her car, jumps out, grabs him and starts yelling at THE KID. She briefly thanked the neighbor and then drove off. My head was spinning.

I'd like to say I'm surprised, but I'm in my pediatric clinical quarter for school, and it's depressing and ridiculous the things some parents do to their kids.
