Our nanny asked if she can take the two boys to a small amusement park next week. It has a splash park part, so she's going to bring her daughter (20) along to help.
How much money should I give her? It costs $25 to get in, but DS2 would be free. It's about an hour away, so there's gas money to consider and food.
Do you think $50 would cover it? I'm not expected to pay $75 for all of their entrence fees, right? She has asked to do this, not me asking her to take them.
I think you should pay her entrance fee, your son's fee, and an extra $25 for gas and snacks. Have her pack a lunch for everyone if she'll be at your home working prior to departure.
Wait - shouldn't she get her hourly rate as well? I'm confused. She asked to take them - but is it on her regular work day? If yes, then you definitely need to pay her admission.
I asked to take the kids I nannied for to places such as the zoo, etc., often. I never had to pay my own way. Even if I had a family member tag along (which I did not) I would expect for my employer to pay my entrance fee even though it may be an overall enjoyable activity.

Yes, she'll still be paid her regular hourly wage. Honestly, though, when you add up the costs for everyone's admission, I think it's more money than I want to spend on an activity. I guess I could say that.
I'd clarify what she expects you to pay. She might not. When I nannied, I took the kids on a special outing that I paid for because it was something I wanted to do with them. I would pay her admission if I requested that she take them, but under these circumstances, I would only pay for gas and your older child's admission (and of course her hourly rate).

This is why I'm a bit stuck. She treats them like they're her own grandchildren (which we love). She buys them presents and takes them over to her house so they can go swimming. So it's all kind of awkward for this.
