I thought I'd post this here because I might get more specific answers than on ML. A book blogger friend of DP's is having to get rid of a lot of books-she's having another baby. She'd be more than happy to donate them to troops on deployment if she can figure out how- Does anyone have any ideas? A little background- these are primarily science fiction and fantasy, most are less than 5 years old, they are in very good shape.
She'd probably be best off mailing them to a specific person overseas. But most established locations have piles and piles of books sitting around already. Has she thought about donating them to a local shelter, prison, or school?
I'll let her know. She's donated the YA her local schools will take to them. It's a conservative area, so they won't touch most of it. There aren't prisons close enough to make it easy for her.
If you're still looking for a place to send them I'll ask my husband what organization he signed up with. He received a couple hundred books in Afghan that he shared with everyone.
I don't go here, but my MOMS club "adopted" a deployed group (troop?) from a website and on their wish list they had reading material. We did have to pay to ship it though
