What car do you drive?
I am waiting on a job offer and if I get it we need to buy a second car immediately. My options are PriusC, Civic, Corolla, Fit, Yaris. The Prius is my top choice because of the hybrid technology. We are still RF and will probably keep RF for at least another year.

We have a Fit. I considered the Foonf for E because of how narrow it is but did not actually try it in my car. I am fairly certain it would work in the middle seat, but I don't think I could drive or sit in the passenger seat with it RF in one of the outboard positions, which is why we ultimately did not go with it. My Britax Roundabout cannot comfortably RF behind either of those. TBH I hate having a RF seat in the middle because I feel claustrophobic with it right there at my shoulder, but if it's necessary or important to you, it's doable.
This is what I am worried about. I also kinda hate it in the middle. It makes it so hard to get them in and out (at least it feels awkward to me). It fits comfortably in our SUV. I think the standard Prius will probably work but I don't want to spend that much. Now that I think about it, we may be buying a 2nd seat anyway so maybe I will just get a different one for the 2nd car.

I have a tiny SUV and it only really works rear facing in the middle. It works behind the passenger but the seat is pushed almost all the way forward. If it's a work car with no passengers, then that would work, since it's only for 1 year.
From my research, the Diono Radian with angle adjuster is probably the best option for ERF in a Fit or other small car.
We just got the Combi Coccoro for E, and I love it (can put the front seat almost all the way back), but I don't expect to be able to use it RF beyond 2.
This is good info Tamb. We need to get some RF carseats for H's car, which is a Subaru Outback sport edition (meaning very small back seat).
Did you try both the Diono and Combi in your car before buying? Or did you just order it and pray it'd fit (like a pull and pray for carseats)?
I have a yaris and have a chicco keyfit (rf obviously) in the middle. I love it.
Something to keep in mind -- getting an infant seat in/out of the middle seat is actually easier in a smaller (more narrow) car. I can reach in with my head outside the car and just lean back a bit and grab ds out from my car. In dh's accord, I have to crawl halfway in, pull the carseat onto the side seat, then stand up and take the carseat out. Small car ftw!
I think @balihi has a yaris too? Or am I confusing with someone else...?
I have a corolla and a nextfit for dd. We are able to put the seats almost all the way back and dd is still rearfacing. I didn't get a foonf because the seat is higher up and the Corolla has a lower roof. So getting her in and out would have been more of a hassle. And I think the rearfacing recline would make it so the passenger seat would need to be farther forward.
I just purchased a Safety 1st Guide 65 for my niece who is coming for a visit. It's very narrow and was much more reasonably priced than the Foonf. I was hoping to fit it in my car but DD's Evenflo is too fricking wide to put anything next to it.
I don't have a small car, I have an Odyssey so...maybe not helpful. lol. If width is a factor for you, we fit two foonfs (one ff and one rf) and an oobr in one row comfortably.
