I read a story about this earlier today and all I could think was there are a lot of white, male actors who are known to be colossal assholes who don't get blackballed once their dickishness is known. I'd love to know what Lee Daniels found to be so objectionable.
She didn't just refuse to campaign. She refused basically to promote the movie. iirc, her attitude was that her work was done once the film wrapped. Later, I'll see if I can remember the article.
I know we side eye the hustle these actors pull around Oscar time but the reality is there is a lot of extra money and opportunities that come for EVERYONE if you can get a pic nominated and ever more if they win and Mo'nique was all, whatever, assholes. I'm off the clock.
Couple things. When folks see Meryl Streep out there hustlin' during awards season and Mo'Nique is talmbout "I can't be bothered" I can see how they might not want to fuck with her.
Also, what Oprah brings to a movie is more than her name and her ability to learn her lines and willingness to look old and fucked up. She brings her power and PR machine. That is invaluable.
Octavia has been doing TV, which is where a lot of big name actors are turning these days.
If Mo'Nique did what she thought was right for her, then she needs to be easy with the consequences of those actions. If she wanted a different outcome, she should have been more willing to work the circuit. She didn't want to do that and it has affected her ability to work. Actions have consequences.
JHud shouldn't get anymore roles cause she cannot act. She was right for the ONE movie. LOL
I do agree that an Oscar win for black ladies does not net the kinds of roles that it might for other winners.
YOU KNOW THIS IS TRUE. That said, there were too many shades of Color Purple to her scenes and I wonder if Mo'Nique might have brought something new and fresh to it. Oh well, we'll never know cause she didn't want to work the circuit and now her ass ain't got no roles, and Oprah will lay down in the dusty ass street looking cray for no money LOL

Monique's GMA Interview. Basically, she said she wasn't blackballed, she just didn't like the projects, and Lee Daniel's real problem, is that he didn't say her name during her Oscar Acceptance Speech.
Following days of trading public claims, it appears the verbal war between Mo’Nique and Lee Daniels has extended itself for an additional week.
Mo'Nique leveraged her recent media blitz with an appearance Monday on “Good Morning America,” where she continued to express her thoughts on being “blackballed” by Hollywood after winning an Academy Award in 2010 for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Precious."
“I had no idea, because I don’t think that Hollywood has turned its nose up to me. I think that those are feelings Mr. Daniels is having,” she said during the interview segment.
“And then he said, ‘There were things that Mo’Nique -- she didn’t thank the producers and she didn’t thank the studio, and that’s just not things that you do.’ Well, it had nothing to do with the producers nor the studio. Mr. Daniels had a problem that I didn’t say his name the night of the Oscar awards.”
The 47-year-old actress-comedienne went on to underscore her thoughts from last week’s CNN interview in response to the “Empire” director’s comments on “playing ball” in “show business” in order to sustain a successful career.
“I appreciate that comment, because he’s absolutely right. It is show business,” she admitted. “A game does have to be played, but can’t we play the fair game? Why can’t we play the right game? If you’re asking am I willing to put my integrity on the line for Hollywood? No.”
Following Mo’Nique’s thoughts on how she handled the promotional campaign surrounding the 2010 film, her "Precious" co-star Gabourey Sidibe took to her Twitter account to weigh in on the matter:
