I'm jealous! While it's nice to be back in the States, being in Gernany was fabulous!
First, renew your drivers license now, if you can. There have been concerns about whether you can continue to drive in Germany with a military "license" if your US state license has expired. Save yourself the trouble and renew it now.
Do you know which base/area you are headed to?
We lived off post and knew going in that would likely be the case. We left nearly all of our 110 volt items in storage. I wish that I'd brought some things, like my blender, to use with transformers.
I'm sure there are more things but my brain is tired. I'll come back when I can think more clearly.
And again, I'm jealous! The dollar is really strong right now so you are likely headed over at a good time!
Thank you NomadicMama! We are headed to Spangdahlem!
My DL should ok, it's good until 2020. Thank you Montana for having them good for eight years! But I'm renewing my passport just in time. It expires next year, but I was going to Spain this summer anyways before we found out about this so I'm in the process of renewing it now.
We are planning to live off base as well. So good to know about the appliances. We need to decide what to store for a few years and what to just sell before leaving.
My mind is spinning a million directions right now. It doesn't help we find out if this IVF cycle worked or not tomorrow. It's going to be a hell of a week if I get a positive beta tomorrow.
Definitely bring some 110V stuff to run off your transformer. A lot of things don't even need transformers -- your TV, computer, etc will probably be fine (check the table next to the power cord to check). Anything with a motor or moving parts (DVD player, possibly your XBOX, printer) will need a transformer though.
We are going too! The KMC area. All signs post towards us living on base, won't find out a for sure answer to our waiver to live off base for awhile yet. I'm terrified they will make us live on base. Boooo.
Wow! I think Germany would be super cool to live in! Good luck getting everything figured out for the move. Also, I really hope you get fabulous news today!
