Our 4 month old puppy was kennel trained an we loved it. But these last 4 nights he won't stop barking when he is in his crate. As I lay in bed right now he is barking away in his kennel. DH an our room mate are in the living room, where the crate is an he is still barking! He was fully asleep when he was placed in the crate.
He wakes up 10-15 minutes after he is put in there.
I just want things to go back to how they were. They gave us some options to try an we have tried them all.
Giving him toys/treats he only gets in his kennel. Place him in the kennel during the day an give him treats if he doesn't bark.
I have had very little sleep the last few days an I can barely function this really sucks!
Edit: he does not have to pee as we have tried to take him out multiple times and he never goes. Vet checkup was also good.
How much exercise and mental stimulation is he getting? It sounds like he might be bored or have pent up energy. It's also possible that he is barking because YH/roommate are in the same room (which I assume means the lights are on, people are talking, the TV is making noise, etc.? That might be distracting to him rather than comforting. It might help to move him to a quieter room (is the bedroom an option?) or at least put a blanket/towel over his crate so he has a cozy, dark space to sleep.
We try an keep him very active during the day. He gets a minimum of 1-2 walks every day plus tons of playtime with anyone of us, we are quite active people. But it may be less lately then it was.
On good news though he ended up falling asleep after 30 mins of barking an he slept most of the night. (only woke up once an barked 2-3 times an stopped)
I hope this is over with. 430 comes around to early when you don't sleep well.
