We have been using our Motorola one for a long time now and really like it. It's the one that costs around $180, not the $200+ one (sorry, don't remember the model number).
We have an Avent Dect audio only monitor. We love it and bought a second for this LO. It has lullabies, a night light, a temp sensor, and vibrates/lights up with noise along with the sound. We are anti video because of the potential for the feed to be hacked and seen by others. It was less then $100 on Amazon and they have two models, one that vibrates and one that doesn't (a little cheaper).
We have a Belkin video monitor. I think it isn't considered an actual baby monitor but it's a camera that hooks up to an app with video and sound. We can talk through it too. I like it so far but the app does occasionally freeze up.
We use dropcam which is a wifi security camera. We can check it from our phones using an app. We love it and will be getting the same one for baby #2.
Do you find yourself checking it constantly? I kind of like the dropcam idea, but I also like the idea of a dedicated "thing" that I can just glance at when it's sitting on the coffee table or my nightstand instead of picking up my phone, unlocking it, opening the app, going to Facebook, going back to the app, etc.

No, not really. Once he is asleep we usually only check right before we go to bed. When he was younger we used a cheap sound monitor that we would keep on and if we heard noise, then we'd check the monitor app. It was nice to have in addition to the monitor.
