Love Market Basket! But I am with you about lines being the 7th level of Hell. I shopped MB today, between the snowmaggedon and typical weekend crowds, it was insane!
Well total time in the check out line was 30 minutes. I think it was a combo of: a) first of the month b) snow storm coming today c) weekend shopping d) new store
The woman ahead of me in line said she spent an hour in the line at the deli!
Yeah, we avoid the peak times because I can't stand waiting in line for 20-30 mins. We often go to MB either on weeknights or late on Sat or Sun. Mid day on a weekend is the worst!

Uh, that's when you take the ticket and then keep shopping while periodically checking for your number. Ain't nobody got time for that!
Yep we rarely get deli meat. When we do I make my husband come with me or we buy the pre sliced stuff. If he comes with me, he stands at the deli counter and I do the rest of the shopping and circle back for him.

I love Market Basket, but cannot go there on the weekends. I usually send DH during the week and he is in and out pretty quickly. I made the mistake of going on a Sunday when I was like 9 1/2 months pregnant. DH still talks about the text he got from me that said "I can no longer go foof shopping for the remainder of this pregnancy for the good of all. It is either you go or you bail me out of jail."

We wanted to get some sliced turkey from the deli, but the line was really long. They had a whole section of stuff that they had already freshly sliced that morning and just set out in a display. I just picked some up from there. And then I grabbed some sliced salami from that section, too, because it looked good.
I never buy more than 12 items because I can't handle the lines. Quick checkout only!
It's just too funny that you have to tailor your shopping strategy to the checkout experience. Also, this only works because you practically live across the street!
Interestingly enough, this MB (which is brand new, as I mentioned) has two express sections. One is for 12 items or less, the other is for 20 items or less.
Unfortunately I actually had to get on the highway to go there, so yeah...not making multiple trips.
