They are coming to some random ass town in Iowa this year. I am obsessed. Tickets are $200 a piece and it is a festival. Which could be awesome or could make me hate youths. I can't decide if the festival part would be fun or terrible.
Who has gone to these? Worth it? They have always been a band I have wanted to see live.
Take this as you will, I do not go to a lot of concerts nor consider myself a music expert. However, DH and I went to see them 2 years (?) ago on a Vday weekend. It was a blast. I don't know how much of being away from kids together (which hardly ever happens) played into it. I am notoriously frugal, but I would pay $200 a ticket if we could swing it to see them again. Plus, they have the new album out. Have you heard some of the new music?

They're coming to a random ass town in WA, too. It's a touristy, winery town. I'm going to have to check H's schedule and see if he'll be home that date.
I went in 2012 at their Portland ME stopover. The festival thing is soooooo not my scene, but my love of Mumford won over. June in Iowa probably isn't as hot as August with zero shade or breeze, which was my biggest complaint. Otherwise the music was amazing (they brought Dawes, Dropkick Murphys, St. Vincent, a couple others), and Mumford puts on an incredible show. I think I'd do it again, but I'd prefer seeing them in a climate controlled area setting.
I saw that they were touring again (eddy, the IA stop is the closest they'll get to the Twin Cities) and, as much as I'd love to see them, I'm not paying $200/ticket. I like some of the other bands/artists that are playing but not that much. If I really loved the other people playing at the show, then maybe. But $200/ticket is still so much. Is that for both nights? M&S is only playing the first night, from what I understood?

That was my H's reasoning. We don't really know the other bands. And yes that is for the whole festival. I think M&S is playing Saturday night.

Tickets are for both days and M&S will not play the first night, though they usually make an appearance to play with the other groups. They'll probably bring in a bigger/more famous group to headline the first night. When we went in 2013, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros played the first night.
Eh, I'd like to see them but I wouldn't want to hang out in that town for two days to also spend $400 in tickets and find a hotel room (which you know are going to be slim pickings with jacked up prices). That's too bad - maybe try to catch them on a standard tour stop elsewhere?
M&S shows are incredible, hands down top 3 favorite I've ever been to - and I've been to many shows. I will see them again and again without any hesitation.
I'd prefer not to see them in a Festival lineup, but mostly because I'm selfish and want to hear them play for hours and not have my evening "with" them diluted by other bands.

I booked a hotel for $99 a night. You can get them cheaper if you pay now. We're going to stay in Waterloo while we're there.

Saw them at red rocks a few years ago. Definitely worth it. But the tickets weren't $200. I don't know if I would pay 200 to see just them, but I'm cheap. But maybe you'd discover more bands you enjoy!!

We went in 2013, but they came to my town and the tickets were $110 ea, not $200. I would probably have a hard time swallowing that, but I will say that they put on an amazing live show and we had so much fun. I'd love to go again.
I've heard Mumford puts on an incredible show and honestly I don't think $200 is too bad for a festival.
We've been wanting to see M&S and dh loves My Morning Jacket but I don't really know any of the other bands. The Iowa stop isn't too bad of a drive for us but I wish I liked the other bands.

I like them but am not so diehard about going to their shows. They are doing a similar thing in Colorado and playing in a fairly random mountain town not known for hosting big acts. I kind of feel about them like I did Dave Matthews Band. I like the music, but I'm just not on board with the must-see-live madness that is their tour. I'm not dissing their music, because I really like it, but they just seem the height of trendy right now.
I did just pay over $500 for VIP tickets for me and my family to go to Brandi Carlile at Red Rocks though. So excited! So I"m not above paying a lot for a favorite musician.
If you love them, I think you'll find it worth going.
