My sister got braces a few years ago. They were regular braces, but clear, and they stayed on for 11 months. She had a pretty big overbite. After the braces came off it was greatly reduced. Still slightly there, but her profile looked a lot different. She then had to wear a retainer for 6 months straight (all the time), and now she only wears it while sleeping. Her teeth have not shifted.
Is there any reason besides cosmetic for you to get braces? I ask because they are expensive and can be kind of a pain. My sister had to brush her teeth after every single meal, including at work. Also, her mouth ached for a day or so each time the braces were tightened. However, she is much more confident now and is very glad that she had them.
I heard good things about Invisalign, which are much less noticeable than regular braces.
I got them on about 2 weeks before DH proposed. not cute. Luckily I was able to get them off in time for the wedding. Except I didn't wear my retainer too well on the honeymoon. My only advice is wear your retainer!!
I had bad TMJ issues, and it helped those, I have no pain now, so totally worth it. Just wish my teeth were "perfect."
I was 29 when I got braces. I went with the ceramic braces vs the metal. Invisalign wasn't an option for me, but I do know a few adults that went that route. One it worked great, one for whatever reason I saw her 5 years later with metal braces and the other quit wearing them before the process was up. Not sure why she would have done that, but hey, it's her money.
I have a cross bite. So in the front my top teeth are over and in the back my bottom teeth stick out further. I was never told as a child I should get braces. I wouldn't do them for cosmetic reasons only at this point.
I guess I'm just wondering about experiences and if it was worth it. Dentist said I would have issues later with my jaw and whatnot if I don't get braces. I really don't want to but I think I should consider doing it.
Oh, I had a thought. A lot of dentists/orthodontists nowadays do things like Invisalign braces that could be something to look at. I don't know if your practice offers this, but I've heard good things from other people.

Yep, I had them for about 18 months before our wedding (ages 23-24). That was my second time, after having them as a kid/teen. I got regular but clear and people honestly didn't notice much. I'm so happy I did it.

Lots do. Many times, depending on the issue, you can get quicker results with the old school kind.
To me it was worth it. Hence me going back for the third and fourth sets (though, full disclosure- those were free for me). Just if you do it, commit to it. Don't eat the shit the ortho tells you not to eat and actually wear the retainers or rubberbands. Had I worn the rubberbands set #2 (which was actually the first complete set of braces) would not have been on half as long.
The most recent experience I was told put them on in October and get them off in April. They came off the very last Wednesday in January. I get less headaches now, and my jaw doesn't hurt anymore.

Yes, I agree. All my friends/family all had better success with the old school kind. My dentist told me it would be quicker for me with that kind as well!
