I have a client who is really down and out but used to be very wealthy. I have about $1,800 worth of work do to for her. She can't afford it. She offered a trade. Assume this bag is authentic and well cared for. What do you think the value is! I think it's vintage.
I don't have any idea of the value of that bag. It looks like it would be at least worth the $1800. Maybe try also posting on the purse forum -- they would likely have good insight of the value.
If you have a Chanel store near by maybe they can at least confirm that its authentic. Then if you also have a consignment store near by they can give you an idea of the value.
Hi there. The bag looks in pretty good shape but definitely still take some photos and try to get the purse forum to authenticate it. I would say that is a fair trade, maybe you would lose a bit. This is def. vintage and depending on their condition it can go for about $1600, but also as little at 900. I do this for a living, so please let me know if you have other questions.
Oh great! Thanks. She also has a LV tote that is black leather but the picture she sent me is so bad I can't see any details. I think she wants to give me both in exchange for the work im doing for her. I think she's going to pop in to my office later to show me in person. She has no daughters and said she has no attachment to the bags. She's very old and dying of cancer but used to be a prominent fashion designer in the 80s in LA. She's an interesting lady. I just don't want to be perceived as taking advantage of her. Honesty, I might even do the work pro bono but she's insisting on giving me a trade.
That looks like it would be epi leather. Depending on the styke it could also go for a decent amount, but def not close to what the Chanel is worth, Honeslty, I have experience with a lot of older ladies just wanting their stuff oing to good homes who will apreciate it. If that's the case just take it and show her how thankful you are, it could make her day.
Sorry to say this- but that bag is most likely not worth $1,800.00. If I were you, I'd send pictures and description of the bag to both Yoogiscloset.com and Fashionphile.com and see what they would be will to pay you for the bag. Although the person may had paid a lot for it back in the day (and probably not even that much bc that is not a classic flap and Chanel prices have increased radically over the past few years) it is only worth today what someone is willing to pay you for it. Add maybe 10-20% to the Yoogis or Fashionphile quote and that is what you might be able to get for it on ebay.

This changes everything for me. If you can afford to take the loss in this case, which is sounds like maybe you can- take the bags as trade. In my original reply I thought you wanted to know the value and hoped it was a least $1,800, so you could maybe sell it. I'm sure she will be very happy that her bags will go to someone who will appreciate them like she most likely did.

Oh no I would definitely keep the bags for myself. Otherwise I would just advise her to sell them and give me the money! Lol. I would never buy myself bags like this. If I ever own a Chanel in my life it will be via this transaction. Haha. I just want to make sure it's a somewhat fair trade.
