I just got an e-mail from the Green Bay marathon organizers with a high heat warning. Temperatures are expected to get into the 80s. No fun! The warning even says don't expect a PR. My training's been going really well this spring and I feel like I was ready to do really well too.
It's like the warning for Boston all over again. At least this race starts at 7 instead of 10.
It's going to be a warm weekend for a lot of races. One of the bloggers I follow is running her first marathon this weekend - the high is 81 and sunny. Ick.
Be careful. I ran Chicago when it was in the 80s and it was scary to see the amount of people down along the route. Wear minimal clothing and maximum sunscreen, and carry water with you even if you don't usually. And if they're giving out ice anywhere on the course, shove it in your sports bra.
I ran Chicago in 2010 and it was brutally hot!! My dad just ran Boston in April and said it was the hardest thing he has ever done. The heat was awful. He is running another marathon this coming Sunday and wouldn't you know it, the high will be 80!! And he is going after another BQ so that he can run Boston 2013 with me (I took the deferment).

I ran 17 miles of Boston with my mom so at least I know a little of what I'm in for. The start time was the real killer at Boston so hopefully a 7 am start will help a little.
I'm still trying to figure out my water situation. I may just end up carrying a throw away bottle which is just as easy for me a handheld. DH and my sister will be able to catch me in a few places for a replacement. My mom used her FuelBelt for Boston and it really weighed her down. I ended up taking it after 5 miles and got really bad chafing, probably from all the extra water from sprinklers, etc

Yeah, a throwaway is a good idea, and have your fan squad bring replacements. FWIW I had a handheld for the marathon and I was so glad I had it in the heat.

Good point about the start time. That does make a HUGE difference starting at 7am versus 10am or later!

Good luck in Green bay! Enjoy the race.
High of 79 on Sat for my half, but it's also a 7am start. I'll wear short & a tank and use my 2 bottle fuel belt. Hoping the heat won't keep me back from a PR. I really trained for this one and feel good about it!
Ugh, I'm sorry! I would definitely carry my own water. Is the course shady at all? You should feel pretty good for the first couple hours with a 7am start. Crossing my fingers for you!
The 7am start helps, but you still need to be prepared. I was at Pittsburgh a few weeks ago and the high was 78 or something like that. 7:30 race start, my husband said people were going down only a few miles in, and I saw at least 3 runners totally lose it at mile 13 (of the half... the marathon went on a few more hours).
You can still do this! Just adjust your race plan and be prepared.

For there rest of you racing in the heat, I got this tip from someone who's run like 20 marathons. Cover your feet in Destin and baby powder. The Destin keeps away the moiture and the baby powder minimizes the rubbing. With all the sprinklers around, wet socks and shoes start to become and issue.
Ugh, that is discouraging, I am sorry. Hopefully the 7 am start time will help, but last year for the Boston half, which started at 7 am in October, it was in the high 70s, and when I finished 2 hours later it was almost 90 :/

Body Glide EVERYthing, even stuff you normally wouldn't. You'll get hit with sprinklers and hoses even if you try to avoid them. Think about what might rub if wet -- socks, fuel belt, etc.
And ice in the sports bra (front and back!) is an awesome idea -- I used to do this a lot last summer.
Good luck! Sorry it's supposed to be hot. Sucks that we train for all those weeks and months, and then the weather is the one thing we CAN'T control!

Yeah. The heat sucks! I'm running the Fargo Marathon in Saturday and the forecast is 75-80 with a chance of thunderstorms. The start for that isn't until 8:15 which kind of sucks. I'm hoping since there's a chance of rain it'll be cloudy, but that also makes me worried about the humidity. Ugh. Oh well. I plan on wearing my camelbak so I have enough fluids. Carrying a bottle for you sounds like a good plan, especially if you have people that can come around and give you new ones. And I'm going to keep the baby powder idea in mind!
