This reminds me of the knot. You don't have an inlaw problem, you have a son problem. Yours doesn't want to be with you. LOL
That was kind of my knee jerk reaction. William was extremely close to Diana, and she inappropriately let him know way too much so I'm thinking if this is true it's way more to do with how William feels about Charles then anything to do with the ILs (beyond William liking them)

I would assume Grandma+Grandpa Middleton's house is totally normal grandparent fare, then compare that to The Next In Line to Be the Monarch's digs, where a toddler is not allowed to touch anything... GEE. Which one do the parents choose?!

Also true I imagine at the middleton's things are fairly baby proofed and the grands do a lot of the chasing and watching. At high grove I imagine it's a constant 'no George we don't touch grandpapa's ming vase'
Don't expect too much until she is Princess of Wales, or Charles is regent (de facto or official) The etiquette for wearing tiaras means it would only be a state occasion and I don't think they'll do many of those until he is next in line and has to based on the decisions they've made so far. They are carefully selecting the events they HAVE to do or are specific requests from QEII. It's no surprise that all their travel has been to commonwealth countries who have tumbled about withdrawing. Charles isn't guaranteed the head of the commonwealth role on her death she is skillfully using the carrot of W&K to encourage those countries to remain and to accept Charles by reminding them of who comes next.
