Then this morning I woke up to see Leo pee on the floor of the bathroom attached to our bedroom and then promptly lay down in it. Nothing says good morning like impromptu bathtime.
/headdesk, back to aggressive housetraining, and break out the blacklight
Already needed to order more enzymatic cleaner, but this definitely makes it a priority.
We had some reversion right after we got back from an 8-day vacation (dogs stayed at their "hotel"). It was the longest they had ever been boarded (by a lot - previous max was only 4 days). One of them (we think T) peed in their room twice while we were at work (despite going out in the morning, out with the walker a few hours later, and out with DH when he got home from work). We crated both of them while we were at work for a week, tethered while we were home, and made sure their morning outing was longer. No problems since, and that was 2 months ago. GL!
This was why we had to stop crating him almost immediately after we got him. I personally think he spent too much time with that as the norm as a breeder stud and so it's a real challenge to get him to like to be clean. It's like he wants to mark himself.
I'll just have to coordinate with H so he gets taken out often enough that he has no ammo for marking either inside or himself. Good thing his desire for territory means I can trick him into releasing it all on various outdoor locations.
I was thinking of switching from Nature's Miracle to gotpee. Despite the higher upfront cost, I think it'll be cheaper for us and will make us less crazy looking to the people who gather our recycling bin. I know the gotpee gets diluted...do you think I could mix up like a gallon diluted batch at a time and store it in the old Nature's Miracle jug without adverse effect? Or is it better/easier to just mix a fresh batch when needed?
Need to add: had to stop crating because he would just go in his crate and lie in his pee immediately, no matter how many times I cleaned both crate and him.
I have no idea if it's a going blind thing or a former puppy mill stud thing or a he is just a crazy unhygenic dog thing, but I'm trying to positively reinforce being clean as the new normal.
