I just got the bill for my 6 week pp check. There is a $65 charge for a Gonorrhea test. Wtf?!? I certaintly didn't request this. We have a High deductible plan so I'm on the hook for it - I've had a string of MM fails lately
What do you think? If it matters, I had an IUD inserted.
I don't think I ever got a test for gonorrhea 6 weeks pp.
I know they do the STD testing in the begininng of pregnancy.
I would be totally questioning that too, does not sound right.
Even if you had and IUD I don't see why that matter's if you had gonorrhea or night I would totally ask even if you end up paying for it find out why they did it. Gl!
I did not have one at either pp check up. Maybe it was a billing mistake. I don't know anything about iuds though so maybe it is standard for that? You could always call your ob office and ask.
I called and asked what the mysterious charge was - that's how I found out it was a gonorrhea test. I was so caught off guard I didn't push it with the billing specialist.
I should call back. I hate this ob office. I know I was tested for Syphilis w the early pregnancy blood work which I was notified of Before hand.

When I talked to my Dr about getting an IUD she mentioned that I would have to get a bunch of STD testing done to verify that getting it inserted wouldn't cause further issues. Maybe it isn't related to the PP appt, but the IUD?

This helps! That's why I mentioned the IUD. They did have me consent to a $34 pregnancy test. I wish they would have mentioned the gonorrhea test. There were a lot of hidden costs associated with that IUD the billing specialist failed to mention when I called in advance to get the cost.

That would piss me off and I'd find a new OB. You specifically asked all the costs ahead of time and they still threw other shit in (even if it was standard, they should have told you ahead of time).
I was never tested for anything when I had my IUD inserted. I would call back and question it. I would also look for a new OB if you are not happy with your current one (which it sounds like you are not).

This I did not know. I stand corrected.
Its been awhile since that appt and things may have changed now so that STD testing isn't standard, or my OB was really conservative. So, take my experience as n=1 and possibly not the norm.
