I don't know why! I truly don't remember how I did table foods with DS. I think that his sitter sort of led the way, but daycare is kind of expecting us to tell her how to handle it with DD, so here I am. DD has 3.5 teeth and can usually get puffs in her mouth. I want to start offering other kinds of table foods (she already eats purees) but don't know where to start. By this age, DS had a lot more teeth so I wasn't as concerned--even though I logically know she doesn't need lots of teeth to eat table foods. Should I offer crackers or veggies or what? I feel lost
It was easier for me to give my daughter bigger chunks of food that she could gnaw on as opposed to tiny things that I saw as terrifying choking hazards. She seemed to really get the hang of table food once we started putting roasted or steamed broccoli on her high chair tray. The stems serve as nice little "handles" so she can't shove the whole thing into her mouth at one time. Big banana chunks (like, half a banana at a time) were also good pretty early on.
I was so nervous about puffs! I don't know why. I tried the mum mum crackers first since I figured she couldn't jam the entire thing in her mouth and would have to gum it.
DD (9 mo) only has two little bottom teeth partway in, and she's chowing down on broccoli, cheese, beans, sweet potato, tofu, carrots, cauliflower, blueberries, melon, etc--we just steam the veggies so they're soft enough to break up when she mashes her gums.
We used those mesh feeders, those worked really well. Lots of cut up fruit and veggies, shredded cheese, and she really was into the texture of hashbrowns for a bit at that age.
Right there with you, only DS won't even do puffs. He will eat mum mums and suck on apple and mango slices and green beans. Banana and avocado get tolerated for exactly 60 seconds and then they become projectiles. We tried ground beef over the past couple of nights and he makes himself puke once it hits his tongue. He's going to go to college on an all-liquid diet at this rate.
It doesn't help that at 8.5 months he has just one little tooth nub. He's also reacted to eggs, so that's out.
I would do chunks of softer foods if that makes you more comfortable. Avocado, banana, steamed squash or sweet potatoes are all good for that.
this... C didn't have a single tooth until after he was 8 months old... After that he had two until after he was a year old. He would have starved if I didn't start giving him foods with more substance.
DD is 8.5 months and eats a huge range of things. Yogurt melts, mum-mums, fresh steamed vegetables, ground beef, small pieces of chicken, pasta, toast, scrambled egg yolks, cheese, berries, all kinds of other fruit, etc. We also like the canned vegetables (make sure it's the kind with very low sodium) as they are a good texture.
Starting at 6 months she ate Mum-Mums, avocado pieces, banana pieces, steamed sweet potatoes, etc.

I'm in the same boat. She gags on everything. But she's slowwwwly getting better, so I have hope!
She does love Cheerios, and cheese. Which, I think, is what I lived on for the first seven years of my life, lol.
My kids did so much better with bigger chunks too. It was harder for them to stuff their mouths full unlike with tiny pieces which they proceeded to do on the regular.
Start with something soft and see what happens. She's probably better than you think.
And if you want to feel better...DS is just a bit over 1 and only has 6 teeth. He eats anything like he may not be fed again without issue and has for quite some time.
DS has no teeth and eats tons of things. Roasted veggies like butternut squash and sweet potatoes ( cut in rectangular chunks) are real hits, but so are steamed green beans and steamed asparagus as well as soft fruits like pear and mangos.
He likes strips of baked chicken, too, but wants nothing to do with ground beef or ground lamb. Oh, baked salmon gets his seal of approval, too.
J will be 1 and I'm still paranoid. H jokes that I cut things up so small he can't grab it.
J loved things like veggie straws. I would let him hold them and he would chew on them. They pretty much disintegrated. Shredded cheese is a good one too. And like pp said steamed veggies.
