I stocked up on flea/heartworm medication for the summer, they want us giving more than usual since the winter was so mild. Chubbs also has some yeast in his ears we have to give him drops for. Except he won't let us touch his ears so that will be interesting! I went in expecting to spend $20 on nail trims and came home $200 poorer.
last visit was expensive too, Chubbs had yeast AND bacteria in his nosefold. We are switching up their foods in hopes of getting control on the allergies which are likely behind his issues.
good thing they are so cute! (Chubbs is poutiing right now, they cleaned and dug around in his ears)
We have a dog with an autoimmune disorder. Our vet bills for the last five years are enough that we could have taken a sweet European vacation. Good thing she gives the best cuddles.
And your post reminded me she needs to go back to the vet next week. Time to make an appointment. Ugh.

I use the mal-a-ket wipes to clean corky's nosefold/face folds at least ona weekly basis. It is very common for them to get infected in pugs.
When Corky first showed up at the rescue he was a mess with yeast/bacterial infections on his feet, in his folds, in his ears, etc. It is absolutely because of allergies. What do you feed them now? We had to take Corky and put him on a very bland diet b/c of allergies. You migiht want to look into something like california naturals chicken & rice or wellness simple solutions. Corky right now gets wellness simple solutions lamb and rice. They really only have two ingredients in them so it cuts down on the allergic reaction.
I hear ya. We just took DH's cat in for bloodwork for suspected hyperthyroid. Full blood panel was almost $400. And now we're spending $70/month for meds. But he's feeling better, so there's that

Poor chubbs.
they were on healthwise lamb and oatmeal for the last 4 years, and we just switched to a canidae food with beef in it. Trying a different protein to see if that helps! Still making the transition so we'll see.
his nosefold is the cleanest I have ever seen right now! we still have wipes leftover from the vet we are using a couple of times a week. Chubbs gets his ears cleaned when he gets his nails done, which is every 6-8 weeks. We've gotta find a way to get in those ears at home! He used to let us until we got Boop, and now he gets mean and tries to bite if we touch the ears. Nosefold he doesn't care at least, but nails and ears are off limits. We trained him so well as a puppy but Boopers changed the whole dynamic. At least she is healthy!
AAww poor chubs! I put Max on Wellness Simple and that has really helped with his allergies. He is still having allergies with the grass and pollen but not near as bed.
As for the vet bills.. we are in over $10,000 just this year. Salmon poisoning, congestive heart failure, meds, ear infections, it was pretty bad for awhile.
I totally agree, OP. We just had a $90 ear infection for our lab/pointer mix yesterday...although I have to admit I was guessing $150 on the drive there so $90 seemed like a MM score, lol.

This sounds just like my last trip to the vet for nail cutting! She had been scratching at her ear (not the one that had been infected the previous month!) and she had a new infection. Nice job, dog.
they are being so funny now. Boopers keeps following him around the room sniffing his ears, the cleaner must smell good. He is very confused as they typically like to stay far away from each other since they are not good buddies.

Poor chubbs!
And I agree with you on the vet bills. We boarded both of our dogs for full weekend at a Groupon total cost of $79 (very MM!). But of course one of the dogs got something while he was there and the vet cost was more than it cost to board them both for an entire weekend!
Vets are sooo expensive. One of our dogs is our problem child. She has had to have multiple surgeries since puppihood. I will NOT calculate how much she has cost us. Worth every penny though.
Our other dog never has anything wrong with her though so I guess it all balances out. We did found out last week that she has something wrong with her knees that could cause problems in later adulthood if she becomes overweight. She eats like a bird so I do not anticipate this to be an issue.
