I don't have much advice, although whenever I feel like I'm going to have a breakdown I try to make an emergency appointment with my therapist, or at least get on the phone with her. Anyway, I just wanted to offer hugs and support.
I call my therapist and am able to get emergency appointments with her. I also talk to my friends. It's nice because I don't have to pretend when I'm around them. If I am having a breakdown they are right there with me. I do have a tendency to wait until mid-breakdown to reach out though. Hugs! We are here for you.
I don't have any easy answers bc I often feel that way myself also! But one thing I have been (slowly) learning is that it is ok to sit w bad feelings bc they will always pass. I don't need to numb them away. Have you watched the show The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt yet? It's a great show (give me more Tina fey produced stuff any day), but Kimmy has a coping technique where she just gets through the next 10 seconds by counting to ten. She keeps repeating counting to ten. She says, you can get through anything if you just take it ten seconds at a time. It's played for laughs sometimes in the show but the concept is a true one and I have found myself thinking of it when I am in true stress.
