My mom, sister and I will be in Boston in a couple of weeks. Could you please recommend a place for brunch? Preferably one with alcohol, we're traveling with mom We're staying around Copley Square, but don't mind traveling a bit.
Also, my sister seems to think we can do a day trip to Cape Cod, that's crazy, right?
Day trip to Cape Cod is doable. You can get to many places on the Cape from Boston within about 90 minutes. There's also a ferry from Boston to Provincetown but I'm not sure if there are any options that run off-season. I think whether it would be a worthwhile trip or not depends on what you guys would want to do/see (the Cape is still pretty quiet in April).
For brunch, there are plenty of weekend options but here are a few of my favorites:
Trident Booksellers is casual but has great food. Very close to Copley.
Friendly Toast in Cambridge is retro, funky fun and delish.
MASA in South End has good Latin-inspired brunch.
Metropolis Cafe in South End is small and simple, but great. There's decent brunch places all over that stretch of Tremont Street, really - Aquitaine, Kitchen, Tremont 647, Stephi's.
I haven't been, but Paramount in Beacon Hill is a popular brunch spot and it would be a lovely walk from Copley through the Public Garden and up Charles Street.
Mike and Patty's in Bay Village has the best breakfast sandwiches in the city but it's teeny tiny and there's pretty much no where to sit. Good for a nice day when you can eat outside in a park. Go a few blocks over to Blackbird Doughnuts on Tremont for dessert. This is my perfect weekend morning.

There's a ton of places in the South End. In addition to the ones janegold mentioned, I'd add Boston Chops to the list. Just know that at some places, you can't get served alcohol until after 11/11:30 on Sunday. And I agree with scm1011- it's too early for the Cape to be remotely worth the trip. Salem is a good option. I also like Newburyport a lot.
I live 2 blocks away from Copley Square so you can pretty much take my word as the law for Back Bay/Beacon Hill. lol but totally serious.
SOUTH END BUTTERY or THE BEEHIVE. Caps because I feel that passionate about both place for brunch. Also good is 5 Horses Tavern - they have 3 types of Bloody Mary's and 3 types of balsamic mimosas. The food is Southern inspired so if you get biscuits and gravy at home, don't go. The Gallows which was on scm1011's link is great for dinner so likely also good for brunch. If you're into pig parts, I hear that Salty Pig is good. Metropolis in the South End is also on my list.
Trident good but there are much better places - it's in a bookstore and not as charming as it sounds. Please don't go to Paramount. It's greasy and there's always a line and the food isn't that good. Beacon Hill Hotel and Bistro is better in Beacon Hill.
This is my hood so if you want other recs for dinner/lunch/drinks let me know! Make sure to walk down Commonwealth Avenue and Marlborough Streets - they're both beautiful old brownstones with such charm.
The streets in Back Bay (where Copley is) are alphabetical: Arlington Berkeley Clarendon Dartmouth Exeter Fairfield Gloucester (glos-ter) Hereford
Points of Interest: Copley Square is between Clarendon and Dartmouth on Boylston. The Marathon Finish Line is on Boylston between Dartmouth and Exeter (everyone wants to see it but people feel tacky asking so there's your answer if you wanted to know). The Copley T is in Copley Square - the entrance on the library side is Inbound (going toward Park Street and the Red Line to Cambridge). The entrances by the CVS and the church on the corner are Outbound (you can take that two stops to Kenmore if you want to check out Fenway Park). I love the area and so happy you're staying here - squee!
