Confession: I don't think I've worn lipstick since I went to a wedding in October. I look like a painted whore in every color I pick out. Also mascara makes me look like a maniac because I have huge eyes. And...I have shaky hands and have never successfully been able to wear eyeliner. Have tried the pencil, the pen, and the kind in between those two. All failures.
I own three beauty products that I use daily. Here they are:
Smash Box Tinted Moisturizer Some sort of eye shadow palette but I only use the purplish one Maybelline Mineral Powder Blush*
* I don't like how this goes on too much too fast. Do I need a different brush or what? How do I get it to not look like a giant Native American streak on my face when it first goes on?
I occasionally also use a Garnier Under Eye Roller.
For a while I bought Mary Kay and really liked the stuff my Rep set me up with but she moved away and I have no one now.
Here's what I look like. Pick out some stuff for me pretty please and thank you. I am wearing makeup in that pic.
I'll start out by saying you probably don't look as painted as you think you do in makeup - if you're not used to wearing it, it probably does look surprising to you.
People may have suggestions here, but I think you're best going someplace like a Bobbi Brown counter and letting them pick out some colors that will be flattering on you. They gravitate towards more neutral shades, and I think it's best to start there before you try adding colors into the mix. And as other posts have attested to, eyeliner takes practice.
We have a Sephora but it's in the mall and I hate going to the mall. Also the store is always so crowded so I never ask for help. I guess you can't do this stuff over the Internet. :-(
I hate blush like that. I tried it, but I felt like I wasted so much of it because I would blend it in on my hand before I put it on my face.
I'm a big fan of Nars blush. I have it in Desire (I use this one during the summer) and Orgasm (this is the one I wear to work). I apply it with this brush: www.sephora.com/classic-angled-blush-brush-40-P188205?skuId=1014026 I just tap the brush into my blush a few times and then swipe on my face. It always gives me the perfect amount.
Sephora used to have a mascara sampler that had 10 or so mini samples. Best. Purchase. EVER. It lets you try so many different types so you can learn what you like.
It seems like you are really into natural looking makeup (like me!). My favorite mascara is this: www.sephora.com/buxom-lash-P228204?skuId=1143486 It goes on really smooth so you don't get clumps or spider lashes. There is no fallout from it. It's just perfect if you are going for a natural look.
Burts Bees has a tinted lip balm. I got it in Honeysuckle. It gives me a nice amount of color without looking like I have anything on.
I would recommend lip glass--it's easier to get right. Choose something that looks just the tiniest bit darker than your natural color or something really sheer. The good thing at Sephora or Ulta is you can try before buying.
I also like Nars Orgasm blush with a blush brush.
Just keep practicing with eyeliner. Pencils are definitely the easiest.
Nothing wrong with sticking with purple shadow. I think that looks good on almost anyone.
I don't have any recommendations for you b/c I'm still playing myself. But not that long ago I basically wore no makeup b/c I thought makeup looked silly on me as well. As long as you'll wear it for a couple of weeks everyday I think you'll get used to it and you won't feel silly. Now I think I look silly w/out makeup b/c I'm so used to seeing myself w/ it on.
I'm going to agree that you have awesome eyes and you should not feel bad if they look big...people spend a lot of time going their make to make their eyes appear large! But...if you feel really self conscious about it and need to ease your way into it, maybe try out a brown mascara, it will give you more defined lashes, but not the blackest black look. As for eyeliner, I wuold go with a kohl pencil, I like Urban Decay's Glide On Pencil. The are really forgiving. If I mess up, I just smudge it a bit into my shadow and I'm good to go. You can also try going with a brown instead of black while you are getting the hang of it so it's not so obvious too. One eyeshadow palette that I really love that I have found is so easy to use is Too Faced Natural Eye/Neutral Eye palette. It got me out of a rut and it is really nice for daytime. I use just the middle colors usually, and it provides a nice shimmer without being too much.
As for lip color, I so can't help you there, I have never felt comfortable wearing lipstick. I feel like a clown no matter the color and I don't feel very kissable either, I so stick to chapstick. Boring, but safe.
