I'm not super fair. so I can't speak to that part of it.
But...I'm super cheap, and spending that much on a single item was painful as hell to me (even though I was spending a gift card. I kept thinking about all the other stuff I could be getting for that much money). But I love that thing. LOVE. I will absolutely repurchase. (not that it's going ot run out any time soon)
I really think it's some sort of witchcraft because when I put it on I just feel prettier.
I have the palette and really like it. But I only paid maybe $30 for it because I got it from the dec sephora sale when they were handing out $25 off anything coupons. And it's worth $30 but not more IMO. And you can find other products on the market that do the same thing for way cheaper. I'm actually wearing clear radiance from bare minerals and I think that's a wonderful all over glow powder. There's also a shade in the pixy holiday palette that is pretty much an HG dim dupe.
How I use HGALP as a pale person is: left shade (dim) as an all over finishing powder, the middle as a highlight and under eye setter, and the far right as a warmth/bronzer. It's awesome to have all that in one palette but I wouldnt travel with it because it's delicate.
TL;dr: worth it but only if you can get it on sale with a nice discount.

I have both dim and diffused lights individually, and am fair, neutral to yellow undertones, with freckles. I like diffused light just fine, but dim light makes me look muddy, and I can definitely see a line of demarcation on my jaw if I use it all over. I use it in place of a bronzer sometimes, which looks fine, but not spectacular.

I have similar feelings.
But Dim Infusion isn't great on me as an all over. If I don't use a super light hand, it goes dark and cakey fast.
The middle shade is my favorite. On my skin, it is not too shimmery as an all over powder. I like it as a highlighter for very professional events because it is subtle. It is also good for blending out blushes if I've over applied.
Bronzer is good, it is very light so it's good for pale skin. But I'm not a big bronzer user and could live without it.
As a finishing powder, I like Besame Violet powder, or when I want a bit more warmth or color, I use Benefit Dandelion all over with a light hand.
If you want to see the effect before you buy, the Wet n Wild bronzer (really a highlighter) in Reserve Your Cabana is supposed to be a dupe for Dim Light.

I will third this. I got mine for $28 and I am glad that I did. I couldn't see paying full price for it. It's pretty on but not life changing like I have heard some claim.
BUT I have only used it a few times. Maybe I will change my mind in the future.
I use Etheral Light over my concealer under my eyes to set it. Sometimes I use Dim Light all over as a setting powder. The nice thing about them is that they are not over powering. They just add a nice finish.
I also have Radiant Light, but I prefer The Balm's Mary Loumanizer to that.
I really like it and despite using the powders every day, there is still a lot of product remaining in my palette. I use the center shade for highlighting and under my eyes. The bronzey shade to the right, I use for contour (mix with a little bit of Nars Laguna powder.) I don't use the shade on the left side much, though and I'm still trying to figure that one out. It's a touch darker than my natural skin tone, so if I use a bit too much, it looks muddy or dirty. I need to play with that one more.
I also have the single in Diffused Light and I love that, too. I use it daily as a setting powder and it cuts down the shine nicely, but doesn't leave my skin looking flat and dry/matte looking.
I do think these powders provide a luminous effect. I took a selfie w/ my DD2 a few months ago and my skin looks like it's softly lit and my skin has a bit of glow to it. It almost looks like I filtered myself (but not my DD2. haha, but I didn't!) I love that pic and will never delete it.

I've been wanting it for a while now, but I haven't pulled the trigger. I tried it for the first time today at Sephora.
It's hard to tell since I applied it with the little cotton things they have at the try on stations instead of a brush. I liked it, but I didn't love it $60 worth. And the bronzer color seems too dark for me -- I can see a line where I applied it.
I'm not giving up on it though -- I plan to go back and try it again. For some reason I really want to like it!

I tried the palette today in the store and it was bad, so bad I washed it off before I could take a picture. Dim made my skin look even ruddier and they said diffused would be too shimmery so not too try it.
I wanted to try the Guerlain meteorites but they don't carry them in the store. The suggestion they gave me was MUFE hd powder so when I was out grocery shopping I grabbed the elf dupe.
