Does anyone still watch 19 kids and counting?
I finally watched an episode or two on my DVR this morning. I need to stop watching this because it totally just enrages me. For example, they are talking about how much they will miss Jessa because she is getting married (well it already happened IRL but the show is just catching up to it). She basically runs the home school program for the little kids and does so much work around the house. No wonder they will miss her!
Then, instead of doing a bachelor/bachelorette party, they decided to do a flag football game. Which actually sounded really fun and a cool idea. Except that it involved the ladies of both families and friends watching the boys/men play football. GAH. Why can't the ladies play flag football, too?!
I am watching...I never really did until the Jill/Derek courtship. It's fascinating and infuriating at the same time.
I agree with OP and everyone else... the girls all sitting on the sidelines during the football game stuck in my craw. I wanted to know which ladies would rather be in the game. Jessa, for one, seems very athletic.
Knowing the pervasive attitudes with regards to gender roles within their faith, I am not surprised by any of it. But watching it in 2015, it still pisses me off and makes me glad I wasn't raised like that and while I haven't stopped watching yet, but it is probably coming soon.
Also in that article was a picture of Jill and she looks great! I don't know how recent of a photo that was/how far along she is (I scrolled) but wow, she looks absolutely beautiful.
The caption says it was posted 3/25 and she was due 3/24. So she's 40+.
This picture was actually a still from a video they shot while shooting pictures for their People magazine cover from a couple months ago. If they were doing that to indicate she was pregnant, she would've had to have peed on a stick *that* morning. About a month ago she was sledding which I have to believe a pregnant Duggar would never do, so I think she is not KTFU. Yet.
I want to hear when Jim Bob and Michelle raise holy hell when they're sharing network space with "All That Jazz", when it starts this summer. (A reality show starring transgendered teen Jazz Jennings).

Also, from what I understand, Duggars don't wait to announce.
Historically, no. But Anna waited until 3+ months this time around so there's that. But this picture was taken in late December/early January so she'd more than likely NOT have been sledding last month if she were knocked up.
People magazine was doing a shoot at the compound last week though for unknown reasons.
Thanks wambam, I had no idea Anna was pregnant with #4. That's impressive she waited so long to announce. And I agree, Jessa wouldn't have been sledding if KU.
This might be flameful but I hated hearing that they want to adopt a lot of kids. I don't think they have any idea how difficult adoption is and how long it takes. Not to mention the potential costs associated with it.

Their attitudes toward women versus men bother me, but the kids having chores and being responsible for home school or other areas of the family's life does not bother me. I think it is great that the family is instilling responsibility in their kids and helping them to develop valuable life skills that many kids today don't learn because of their scheduled activities outside the home prevent them from taking responsibility at home. I just wish that the responsibilities weren't so divided by sex.
I grew up mowing the lawn, doing laundry, cooking dinner, cleaning bathrooms, babysitting my brother, etc. When I lived with 4 other girls in college, it was evident that some of them did not grow up that way and they either overpaid to have some of these type services done or in some cases they then learned how to complete basic chores.

I think there's a pretty big difference between giving your child chores to teach them responsibility and time management and making them raise your other kids because you've had more kids than you can manage on your own. Washing dishes and folding laundry is cool, raising your baby sister and making sure all her needs are met because your mom is too busy marathoning her way through another conception/pregnancy/birth every year is not okay.

Well fortunately I am 100% they will never actually adopt. The Duggars have slightly moved away from Gothardism but his ideals are still at the root of their lifestyle. Bill Gothard is opposed to adoption because the children are tainted by "the sins of their father."

I agree with this completely. There is nothing wrong with household chores, but what I was trying to say was that it was apparent from this episode that Jessa has been instrumental in the education of the children. Don't get me wrong, I am sure she is a smart woman (who albeit has been brainswashed), but it seems a little crazy to think that she is in charge of ALL OF THE EDUCATION of the little ones, because they home school. So she is a teacher and a caretaker, too? And it was also clear that Jill was basically in charge of cooking all the meals before she left. No wonder they can't wait to leave and get married - it frees them from daily drudgery.
