We are going to be flying for the first time with the babies this May when they will be 6.5 months old.
We didn't buy them their own seats and were planning for them to be lap infants, however the plane is currently only half full so there may be extra room.
I'll be flying with my husband. We have Chicco Keyfit car seats and our stroller options are the MacLaren, City Mini and Joovy Twin Roo (frame stroller). We also have an Ergo and a Moby.
I was thinking of checking the car seats curb side and just using the MacLaren in the airport and then gate checking in. But am wondering if we might want the car seats if there will be free seats we can buckle the seats into.
What worked best for you when flying with babies around this age with car seats and strollers?

We always bought/buy seats for kids, no matter the age, and it's made flying relatively easy. So, if I were you, I'd use your DSNG with carseats down to the gate and hope you get extra seats to use. it's so nice to have your hands free, and usually the babies will just conk right out.
I'll be using the maclaren when we fly. Travel is one of the main Reasons I bought it. When we flew with j I wore him through security and such and used the umbrella, stroller as a place to contain him while waiting at the gate etc. And feed him a snack. We bought him a seat and used the car seat since we needed the car seat at our destination.
We just decided today we aren't getting the girls seats when we go to disney. I know they won't stay put without a car seat and I'm not lugging those things just for the flight!
I would take whatever stroller works best at your destination. Any of the ones you mentioned would be fine for the airport, but if you think your babies would be more comfortable in 1 vs the others while sightseeing, or whatever you're doing, then go with that.
My kids were lap babies until I had to pay for them but I can't remember the last time I was on a plane with empty seats. When would you know that free seats are available for you? Would you be able to know at the ticket counter or would you need to wait at the gate before finding out? I don't even know how that works! Does your plane have bassinets?
We flew today for the second time with my twins. The first time we flew they were a year and we went to Hawaii. We bought a seat for one girl and rotated the girls. The one in the car seat slept, the one not in the car seat didn't. Today we didn't buy either girl a seat since it was a shorter flight. We did know there were empty seats however. We checked one seat and planned on gate checking the other. Right before we boarded we asked if there were open seats near us and if we could bring the car seat on board They gave us the ok so once again we ended up with one in afar seat and one not and it worked out amazingly well.
All that to say id make the stroller choice based on what stroller you'd used at your destination and figure out how to get the car seats to the gate. Having the car seat worked out well both times for us. We also had a twin roo when we went to Hawaii but that wasn't the stroller we'd use in Hawaii so we got a car seat bag on wheels we were able to drag through the airport with the strollers. We found it on Craigslist otherwise I don't know what we'd do. Today we balanced the seats on umbrella strollers and carried the girls.
I just wanted to chime in and say that if you don't buy seats for both kids, you and your H can't sit in the same row. There have to be enough oxygen masks per person per row.
We didn't buy seats until the boys were two and we fly often. We didn't bring a car seat on board until they turned two. We gate checked them.
We wore the boys in our ergos throughout the airport. We've only taken a stroller once and it was a single orbit that we gate checked in it's bag. We wore the boys a lot though and didn't mind not always having a stroller when we traveled.
