We need to have our house painted this year. It is only 5 years old, but the builder grade paint is fading badly on the south facing part of our home (aka the front). Since we want to sell in a few years, I want to paint it now and protect the siding. It is currently a medium green/beige color with a dark green, almost black trim (which is the same color as the shutters). I am thinking of changing the trim to white so we don't have to worry about fading and then painting the shutters black. I really like the color have it just needs to be freshened up. But since we are repainting the house, it got me thinking of maybe changing the color completely.
So I was curious about other color combinations and whether or not you like it. I am thinking the white trim will be easier to maintain than the dark (just powerwashing dirt away, not as much fading). I would love to hear your thoughts!
We repainted our house recently and I love the new look!
The prior color was a washed out looking yellowish beige with faded white trim and the front door was white. Really dated looking.
Our painter used Dunn edwards paint. We went with Cool December (think bright and cool white) for all the wood trim, Tarnished Silver (think dark gray with blue undertone) for the stucco exterior and my front door is my fave, we did Navy Teal and changed the 80s brass hardware to black modern hardware with a black knocker. The door pops since it is surrounded by trim and panes of glass.
We also updated all the exterior lighting to black finish to make it look fresh and modern but simple.

Our house is vinyl siding so it will be this color for life (or until a really bad storm). It's buttercream yellow with brick in the front and brown trim. I don't feel like the brown has faded, but I'm sure the whole house has faded over the last few years.

Sage green with white trim. The front and back doors, porch and porch steps are brick red. I like it. It's very charming. I love the pop of color on the door. My personal style might have been a different pallette, but this was a good compromise and works well for the house and neighborhood.

This is the color of our house:
It is a craftsman style and we have a walnut stained craftsman door (the three glass panels up top and then the molding details underneath). I really think the white trim will brighten it up. And I have a love affair with black shutters. While i do love the green, landscaping is always a challenge because between the grass and plants, everything feels so - green. But it makes our house unique in an otherwise cookie cutter neighborhood, so I am thinking of sticking with it.
We currently have a sea foam green house. Ick. The front is mostly stone, though.
I'm hoping to repaint in a few years and I can't decide. We are stuck with light gray aluminum fascia that has no reason to be replaced - would probably cost fortune anyway. Roof is a lighter gray, too.
itsbritt - I love what you described, what color is your roof?
What about more green than your current beige? I think the roof color has an impact, too.

I think our house reads more green in person than the swatch I posted. Our roof is a charcoal gray, architectural shingle roof. So I think we could do just about anything. We unfortunately do not have any stonework (I would love to add some, but won't spend the money on it since this is not our forever house).
If I was going black, white w/ a dark grey roof, I'd probably want a cooler color for the house itself. But this is not my area of expertise by any means.
I wouldn't spend money adding stone either. House in our style & area pretty much all have at least partial stone - but these are 75+ year old houses.

My other thoughts, other than going over the same color with the same, were a soft gray or perhaps a nice lighter gray blue. I might look into those further.

Our house is white with black shutters but we will be doing a complete remodel on the outside within 2-3 years and we want tan with cranberry colored shutters.
Our new house will be white with orange front and garage doors. (Probably not a good combo if you want to appeal to the masses for selling!) good luck!

I am trying to imagine that in my head! When Auroraloo said orange too, I was thinking hmmmmm, because orange is one of our alma mater's colors, but that might limit buyers. It would anger my neighbors who went to the rival school though, so it might be worth it!
Our house is stuck in the 80's. It's baby blue with navy shutters and white trim. And the sunny side of our house is faded so badly so I'm hoping to paint or replace soon.
we are repainting this year as well. We like the original color - darker tan with a hint of green. If we stay at this house i would like to add some of that fake stone to the front our our house.
