I keep saying I'm going to lose weight, but I'm clearly not, so I need to get some new clothes. I will sort of have a dress code... I will be interacting with patients, but nice jeans are apparently ok. 99% of my shirts are t-shirts with holes in them. I'm a size 18/20, and most of my shopping is done at JCPenny or Target. I'm ridiculously pear shaped, if that helps. I just would like to spend a few hundred dollars and get maybe 1-2 more pairs of jeans, and some nicer tops. Even pointing me in the direction of a store that has clothes I would fit into would help. Thank you!!
It has a double-layered front, so it drapes wonderfully. The cap sleeves provide enough coverage so that it feels fine to wear alone, but they don't bunch up under a cardigan.
I know it seems spendy for a basic top, but the fit and drape of it are just so good. If you wait, Talbots rotates its sales/coupons. I want to get several other colors.

What is womens petites? Short plus sized clothing?
I would buy a pant style khaki pant in tan, white and a pair in black. Then tops that would go with all three pairs of pants interchangeably. (get some better quality items on sale or clearance when possible in a good washable fabric --- not a cheap cotton T-shirt).

Should I sign up for talbots mailing list?
Yes, it's chubby short people clothes. I just tend to wear regular W sizes in tops because I like them slightly longer. WP for dresses, pants, and jackets.
Probably. I am not on the mailing list but check the website enough to know that they rotate the sales. I am waiting for stuff to go on sale to buy a few more of those tops, a maxi skirt, and a cardigan.

This will sound dumb, what is a pant style pant? Somewhere between skinny and boot?
I'm on the bigger end of 16. I have a bunch of Target cardigan sweaters and I wear sleeveless tops underneath ... Target, NY & Co., Kohl's (Apt. 9 and Sonoma brands, sometimes Elle).
I also like Macy's for all kinds of clothes. The last pair of jeans I bought from there are by Tommy Hilfiger.
The fit-and-flare dresses from Lands' End are really nice, too. I have a couple of Merona-brand A-line dresses from Target. And I recently bought a Boden dress that fits pretty well.

More of a dress pant style, but is in a casual fabric - not tight and not slim tapered, but more straight cut. You can even get them in a denim/jean fabric. Add a nice comfortable pair of flats (good ones) and then add inexpensive accessories - scarf, sweater, jewelry. You will look professional and make the most of your clothing budget if you have a plan for using a few colors and mix and match. Everything should be able to be worn with several other items.
Old Navy tank tops, which I wear under cardigans. Cardigans I get from Maurices, Land's End, and Mod Cloth. Torid t-shirts are awesome. I found the cutest maxi skirt at Target last night.

Ohhh please tell me more about this Target maxi skirt!

Try Lands End. They are a little more $$ but they are good quality. I don't know about you, but I find that 'young people jeans' don't hide my tummy enough now that I've had 2 kids and am a good 40lbs overweight. LE pants/shorts have a nice rise that isn't too high but also isn't too short. Plus they have some really flattering dresses.
