Ok so I am 34. I just moisturize in the morning with some oil of olay moisturizer.
Like this:
I tried some garnier BB cream and I found it too thick and heavy.
I have a little bit of redness in my face and don't really have time nor care for foundation. I have tried a million kinds, gone to sephora, etc and haven't found a good fit.
Would a better quality BB cream or CC cream help me?
Like I was considering this clinique "moisture surge cc cream" but I don't really understand the difference between BB cream and CC cream.
I think BB creams and CC creams are just a gimmick. You will make yourself crazy if you try to understand the difference because there's all sorts of spins and interpretations on them that they don't actually make any sense. Ignore what they are actually called and focus on what they actually do.
Figure out: (1) if you want a regular moisturizer, or a tinted moisturizer, and if it's the latter, how much coverage. (2) how much SPF you want (3) your specific skin concerns - dry, oily, anti-aging, combat redness, etc.
Buy the product based on that. It's entirely possible that there are products called moisturizers, CC creams, and BB creams that contain the exact same cocktail of stuff that you need.

BB and CC creams are basically the same as a tinted moisturizer, which is basically just a really light liquid foundation. It's really more about finding a product that has the feel you're looking for.
I use the Tarte BB Cream 12 Hour. It's a light foundation, and I really like the silky feel of it. A lot of people love the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, but I couldn't find a shade that worked for me.
But if you hate the feel of foundation, have you thought about a powder foundation? I used MAC Studio Fix powder for years, and I still love it. It goes on just like a face powder, but the coverage is decent.
The thing I've heard is that these terms are meaningless (cc, bb, tinted moisturizer) unless you are getting a Korean BB cream, which actually are packed with extra skin perfecting/improving goodies.
In any case, BB, CC, tinted moisturizers are thicker because they have moisturizers and color in them usually, whereas foundation is just color. In fact I suspect you could combine your favorite moisterizer with your favorite foundation and walah! You too have "BB cream!"
I could have sworn Lisa Eldridge had a good video about this, but I can't find it. Here's what I remember...
BB cream was invented in the 70s by a German dermatologist who had clients that had procedures and weren't supposed to wear makeup while they were healing, but they basically insisted on doing it. So he/she invented a product that had real skincare qualities like SPF and moisturizers, but also had a tint like makeup. It really caught on in Asia, and some were also developed with acne-fighting ingredients (I heard them called "blemish balms" when they first started catching on here). With the internet and beauty bloggers they started to spread outside of Asia.
I use the Skin79 VIP Gold bb cream, which is a Korean brand. It's not thick, evens out my skin, and I really do think it helps make my skin look better even when I'm not wearing it. Prior to finding it I'd tried a couple tinted moisturizers and I felt like my skin really started to look like crap after using them for a while.

I use that exact moisturizer and mix a small amount of foundation in it. I haven't found a foundation or tinted moisturizer I like well enough to use independently, so this strategy works well for me.

Thanks for the ideas, ladies.
I should also add that I have like two minutes to do my makeup and am constantly late to work, so the reason I am intrigued by a tinted moisturizer is that I feel like I need something I can apply with my fingers. I also sometimes am running so late I grab my makeup bag and bring it with me to work. I then sit in my office with the door closed and do my makeup, drink coffee and read GBCN for half an hour....

So my specific skin concerns are anti-aging (should that be a concern at 34? I feel like it is for me) and combating redness.
I will forever push It Cosmetics CC cream on anyone who will listen.
Are you listening? Try It Cosmetics CC cream!!! lol.
Preaching to the choir sister.
I got a sample of the CC cream, wrong color but lovely texture. I'll buy my color when I use up my Lumene CC. Their Bye Bye Redness is great for blotchiness. I like their powder foundation as well.

Now that you've narrowed it down, I would probably go to Sephora and ask for recommendations and samples.
