I mentioned last week that I was thinking about depotting my Naked 3 palette to make it easier to pack, and I did it last Friday. Here's how in case anyone else wants to give it a try.
You need: Your Naked 2 or 3 palette A sharp knife/box cutter Magnet tape, or just a magnet and something to glue it down with (if you use a magnetized palette like a Z Palette you don't need this) An empty palette (I used an ELF compact) I also used a towel so I'd have a washable, softer working surface
Step 1: Separate the bottom of the palette from the plastic tray that holds the shadow pans.
Step 2: There's a piece of foam adhesive on the bottom of the tray, so you have to run the knife back and forth between the tray and the bottom of the palette to separate them.
Step 3: Close the palette, rest it on its lid, and poke each pan through the plastic to separate them from the tray. You really don't need much pressure for this.
Step 4: Remove the pans from the tray. Some may just fall out if you carefully turn it upside down. Others you'll have to remove by wedging the tip of the blade between the pan and the try and gently prying them out. You'll see how I wasn't so careful with Liar and gouged a hole in it. I don't have pictures of this step because it was too hard to do both.
Optional steps: Clean off the leftover glue on the pans with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip (I didn't bother); write the names of the shadows on the backs of the pans (I did do that).
Step 5: Line the ELF compact with the magnet tape. Or you could cut small pieces and put the magnets on the backs of the pans since the ELF compact comes with a removable metal sheet.
Step 6: Put the shadows in the palette. The ELF compact only holds 10. I put the other two (and two others from my Naked 1 palette) back in the Naked 3 palette for storage.
The whole process took maybe 20 minutes. And this is the tutorial I watched to figure it out, but she just used a Z Palette.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
When you mentioned depotting a Naked palette, I couldn't picture how it would work due to the shape of the shadows. It really looks great though!! I'm hoping I can start depotting some of my Mac shadows tomorrow. I think I have at least 20 I want to get into palettes. I so wish I could take back the empties for one of their new palettes instead of individuals.
