A friend and I are meeting in Pittsburgh at the end of April. Neither of us know anything about the city. We choose it because it's about equal driving distance for us.
Can anyone recommend a good hotel? I assume we'll stay downtown. Any restaurant recommendations?
They just opened a Kimpton downtown that's been getting good reviews. There's also a nice renaissance hotel down there.
There are a number of Downtown restaurants are good. The restaurant scene in Pittsburgh is thriving the past few years. You should be able to find something decent, depending on what type of food you enjoy and what neighborhoods you want to spend time in.
Kid/family activities or just adults to entertain and feed?
And ditto lishie about the Hotel Monaco (Kimpton). We had friends that were there for an event and they raved about it.
Just adults. We just want to catch up and eat good food.
OK, any idea of what you'd be interested in doing? Museums, gardens, biking/trails, shopping?
There are good restaurants downtown, but also in other neighborhoods in the city that you will need to drive to. Don't want to give recommendations if you are just interested in parking and staying just in downtown.

There are a lot of Pamela's locations that are cash only - just a warning. Also, I know that Pamela's in Oakland is on the No Wait app if you are heading that way for the Carnegie Museums of Art/Natural History or Phipps for the botanical gardens.
Depending on when you are in town in April you may want to avoid Oakland all together because it will be Pitt's convocation/move out weekend (April 26th).
I always recommend dinner on Mt. Washington. The view is wonderful.
Pamela's is my favorite place for breakfast. Their pancakes are amazing. There are a few locations but the strip district is my favorite because there are fun shops to walk around in before or after.
Thanks to everyone for the recommendations, even though I flaked on this thread. We ended up staying at the Sheraton at Station Square. Lunch and day drinking at Church Brew Works. Took the tram up Mt. Washington. Dinner and more drinks at Grandview Saloon overlooking the city. We are now waiting for a table at Pamela's. This city is awesome. I'm glad we came.

Yay! I'm glad that you are enjoying our city. Pamela's is my all time favorite for the hotcakes - strawberry stuffed. Hope you got something yummy that you loved!
