Since there isn't a VanCity board I figured I'd ask here.
Have any of y'all taken the drive up to Vancouver? I've been living here for two years now and never have. Was thinking of going for labor day weekend since hubby will be of work.
Is the drive a pain or mostly quick? Are there little neighborhoods I should drop by at? We'd probably leave early Friday morning and come back Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
It's really quick and easy drive. It's about 3 hours from Seattle without traffic. The only thing that might trip you up is the border crossing. Usually we go through the truck crossing since its faster than at the peace arch. Leaving early both ways should minimize the border wait times.
Stop off in Bellingham on you way to or from. It's a cute college town with charm. If you're in to Chinese dim sum, stop off in Richmond, bc. That dim sm is really good. My fav up there is jade Chinese seafood restaurant.
I have no experience myself with animals but I'd check on the Canadian border Patrol website and see what they say. I know we go up to Canada all the time and see people crossing with their dogs and they don't seem to have a hard time with it.
I drove up for Labor Day 2 years ago. Left around 2 pm traffic was awful. I recommend leaving early. If you're into active vacations try hiking MT Grouse, you hike up and take a tram down. If the weather is good here are amazing views of the city. You can also ride bikes and cycle through Stanley Park.
That is insanely helpful information. Thanks so much! I guess we will put it off a couple of weeks. Is the weather like here during middle of September?
