I did it the first year it was at night and really liked it, even though it was super crowded. This was the year that there were a TON of problems, but I did not experience any of them (like they ran out of water - I run slow (finished in 2:42), so I would have thought this would have occurred for me). There was plenty of food at the finish, etc. There was a such a backlash that they changed a lot of things, including the half/full routes and merge, the start/finish lines, etc.
The start time is a bit annoying because you cannot go out and have fun the night before, but you don't just get up and go. The year I did it, I think it started at 5:30 and took me an hour to get to the starting line, so it ended late. But the route was fun. Mentally, going down the strip for the finish was great for me. We ran through some dark streets downtown (which some people apparently freaked out about), but you were in the giant mass of people, so I never felt unsafe or anything.
A big pet peeve from the last go round is that people bitched because there were no restaurants open in Mandalay Bay (which was the finish line that year) except for like a Mcdonalds (as in complained the mandalay bay did not have extended hours for places). IT'S VEGAS!!! EVERY casino has a 24 hour restaurant. I was just baffled that people thought going to the hotel closest to the finish line in a race that had 60K people for dinner would be a good idea. We cabbed it over to the Hard Rock and had a fun time afterwards.
A friend and I were going to run it again this year, but the date did not work.
A running buddy has done it a bunch of times - this will be her 7th year in a row. That being said, she said this will be the last year; she got a $99 special to sign up right after last year's. I think it was pretty crowded, but she still likes it.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

This is really cool. I just did RnR SF and they had a $50 sign up this week (it was Sunday). So if you're going to do an RnR, and can plan ahead, try to register after the current year's race. I'm going to try this for Portland and Seattle.

$50?!? I'd do it for $50!
I think it was only offered for people who were repeating, but it was a much better price than she normally pays, so she jumped on it.
