@ruralrabbit1 and her outdoorsy-weekend made me think of this.
Mr. P wants us to go to a lodge up in Canada walleye fishing and while I have girlfriends that also go and I'm no prude, I don't think I could stand the bugs.
The last couple of years, I break out like a mother whenever I get a mosquito bite. The bites end up almost like hives and take a couple of weeks to fade. It's horrid. I have those bands to deter them when I go out to mow and luckily we live at the edge of the desert, so not a problem until we go Up North in the summer. I went inside immediately when it got dark outside in Florida.
Should I see an allergist or I am just overly sensitive? I grew up on a farm and it was never like this as a kid. Anyone else have a problem like this? Maybe due to medication issue? I use Benadryl and Calamine like it's going out of style when I do get chewed on.
FWIW and not sure if it's relevant, but I am also seriously allergic to bees.
I never got bit by mosquito's until about 10 years ago. Now they LOVE me (H doesn't even wear deterrent when I'm next to him, lol) and my bites look super, duper bad.
I have no idea if I'm allergic to bees, but I'm definitely allergic to the outdoors in general. I was getting weird, systemic hives from the garden one year. Now I only go in with long sleeves on.

Not good for you, but I wondered if it was just me. My suffering with this started to ramp up when I got bit by something after Hurricane Rita and I ended up in the ER. I didn't know if I got a bee sting or what but my throat swelled shut and I was home alone and the entire city was under curfew. It's seemed really bad since then with the mosquitoes but I've been allergic to bees since I was very young.
They can chew on Mr. P until the cows come home...no biggie, doesn't notice.
It really sucks. Do you use Benadryl or anything else helpful?

Mosquitos love me! I get bit and they swell up, blister and then pop and ooze all over the place. Not a good thing when I was in India; open wounds and monsoon season are not a good mix!
I still get bit when I lather myself in deet laced mosquito repellant.
Cortisone does nothing for the itching. I just slap on some aloe and live off of the Claritin ready tabs; it makes it bearable but I still itch like mad.
I have terrible, terrible reactions to bug bites. I get bitten often (like, when no-one else I'm with gets bitten at all) and I react terribly -- huge, weepy welts that take FOREVER to heal. I have one from 2 months ago that still isn't completely healed.
I use locoid (rx steroid cream), benadryl, and calamine. But don't go by me -- obviously what I'm doing isn't enough to keep it at bay!
I have terrible reactions to mosquito bites too (but not fly bites, those go away quickly for me). I have a lot of lightweight long sleeve clothing as a result, and if I'm going to be sitting somewhere (like on a deck at a lake) where they are out in droves, I actually bring a fan to put near me. They are pretty weak fliers.
I get horrible welts from all bug bites and benadryl does nothing to help. My mom introduced me to spraying Bactine on them and it helps more than anything else.
I also have terrible reactions to mosquito bites. All of my bites swell up so much that they hurt. Last summer I got one that swelled up to be the width of my forearm. Nothing seems to help the itching or pain. I have tried covering myself in mosquito repellant, burning those repellant candles, covering my skin, allergy meds, cortisone, calamine, and everything else. I still end up getting bit. I remember one summer as a kid...my friends were complaining that they had so many mosquito bites. They had like 10-20. I lost count at 80 on me.
I wish there was some sort of cure for these terrible reactions.
mosquitoes love me too. I have to cover myself in bugspray every night when we take DS out in the backyard to play. H
as Mr. P been to this lodge before? Are the bugs particularly bad?
Mr. Pom and a couple of friends have all been (Chapleau, Ontario) and it's bad. On the lake it's not as bad, but walking to the lake and back is a gauntlet of mosquito torture.
I've been up there too, but only in late October. That was perfect but not prime Walleye season.
