Is this a country-wide test for private school admission or just a NY thing?
I have been stressing out a little bit about public school K for DD mainly because of zoning/space issues. So I started looking into private K, which means we have to get applications in this fall and get DD an EBT test. Before I figure out if I want to go this route, particularly since it's a "I'm freaking out/just in case" thing and not a "we really want to do private school thing," I wanted to hear from other parents about the test itself. TIA.

I am in a similar boat, sort of. Our public schools are awful. DD is 2, and we registered her for a montessori preschool, at a private school that goes up to 8th grade. I thought it would give us a good opportunity to test the waters, and the are a great school. We just got our welcome packet today, and it talks about lots of fundraising, and golf events at country clubs and auctions and such, and I am just not that type of person. To me, raise the price and leave me alone. So for starters, I am already freaking out about the private school thing.
As far as testing goes, the kids take a test to go into K, but I think it is more used as a placement exam to measure the kids so they can balance the classes well. I don't know if it is called EBT, but I don;t think you should worry too much abut it. She is who she is, and I am sure she will do just fine. The letters of rec are a little intense, but maybe just the process of doing them weeds out a lot of people. If you aren't even sure you will go that route, I say relax about it, go through the motions, and at least it will be done if you decide to.
