Hearing about his brother is amazing! I love hearing about this!! Is there anything that he is really excited about seeing in colour for the first time?
My H is very colorblind. He can't tell the difference between red and green. And I knew w he can't get passed the first page of the color blind test at the eye doctor. I want to know if he would want this and if he does I am afraid to check how much they cost.
They're in the $400-$500 range, which, I think we'll likely be buying a pair of indoor glasses for him soon. That's actually around the cost of my regular glasses, since my eyes are so jacked up, so I can't deprive the colorblind one. I expected them to be thousands of dollars when I first saw the video.
I was expecting thousands too. I wonder if he would like rise color or wood rather not know what he is missing.
Also, I've always wanted to see through his eyes for just one day. Just to see how he sees the world.
I remember him trying to explain to me how bad it was when we were first dating. We were playing trivial pursuit and I would tell him pink. And he would ask me the wrong question he eventually told me he couldn't tel the colors apart and asked if I could tell him the category.

We had our engagement pictures taken at our state capital building. There is a mosaic wall that local children made with handprints and glass pieces in a rainbow pattern. My favorite pictures were taken in front of that mosaic. He wants to see why I like them so much
And, this is sooooo dumb, but there is a huge pink elephant drinking a martini statue that is wheeled around town and put in every parade.
He wants to see the pink elephant, lol.
That is so, so cool. I so love hearing stories about how medical science has changed lives for the better. Things like this make me feel so warm and fuzzy. DO you live near the ocean at all? I know one thing that always blows me away is how blue the ocean can be. Every time we go on vacation, I'm stunned by how gorgeous the blue ocean is. Or yellow canola fields, or fall leaves. You're story is making me so excited for him!
One of my best friends is severely red-green colorblind and this prompted me to talk to him all about it. It's so crazy that he just doesn't see red/yellow/orange. We were bummed that the glasses are so expensive.
revolution I've found a few colorblindness simulators online, but it's still so hard to comprehend seeing everything like that. Another thing my H kept commenting on was skin color. He couldn't believe what shade his hands actually were. And we've totally had the board game dilemma. Stop moving my Sorry pieces!
nursewife no, we're pretty landlocked, but we did drive to the lake. The brambles on the shore that were just starting to turn green with growth really intrigued him. It's like he had never been able to see layers before, because everything would have been the same color.
I think this is one of my favourite top 10 posts. I'm so happy for you guys! I'm sure your and the rest of your family are just even more beautiful now that he can see you in colour. Is there a colour he thinks is his favourite right now?

OMG that is so cool! I've never heard of those glasses, but I'm so happy that he got them, and is able to enjoy all of the colors that we take for granted everyday.
nursewife I'm not sure yet. He is really stuck on pink, I think because DD's outfit was 80's neon explosion pink today. He keeps talking about how bright her shoes were.
That's wonderful that one of his first great experiences is your daughter's outfit. I love this story so much.
I don't have words for how much I love this story. His reactions. Your reactions to his reactions. Your daughter's connection to his first taste of color. Imagining going around with someone seeing color for the first time. The brothers' conversation. The fact that you heard about it on ML. ML's collective excitement for some "random" H out there who can now see in color.
I just had a thought that you should take your H to Home Depot to look at all the paint color swatches. I love doing that myself. I can't imagine seeing that spectrum of color for the very first time.

His mind will be blown with those two items. The pink elephant is the best though. =)
I was telling my DH about your husband, including the part about your DH having to leave art school. My DH went to art school, also, and started telling me a story about one of professors who was color blind. DH said the professor always had the hot sketches because they popped so much. The professor had to number his pastels and lay them out on a color wheel and he always "painted by number." One day things got out of order and while doing a monochromatic red sketch, he grabbed a green pastel and started scribbling all over the sketch. Up until then, nobody in the class knew he was colorblind. The students at first thought he was goofing around and couldn't figure out why he was ruining his sketch. When the students asked what was up with the green on the red sketch, it was the first moment the prof knew he had messed up his sketch. He said, "well, I might as well let you see how the world looks to me." So he took the red and green sketch and xeroxed it into black and white. my DH said in black and white, it was one of the best sketches he ever saw. There was perfect contrast, the elements popped and it had a photographic quality. DH said everyone spent the rest of the semester trying to imitate the profs paint by number technique.
