I sent a link to the story about these glasses to my H and he said it depressed him, realizing all that he's missing out on. He's also red/green colorblind and is seriously considering buying the glasses. Thanks for sharing and that's so awesome for your H!
I'm continually amazed at how far we have come and how modern science can improve lives.
It sounds like your DH is the perfect candidate for these glasses and I'm so glad he is enjoying the experience. I had a friend with severe red/green colour blindness when I sailed and he was unable to complete his captaining licences since so many of the signals are red or green. It was brutal. My brother is also mild to moderate red green colour blind and I remember when my grandparents bought him a game boy colour and he couldn't tell any of it apart (Ooops!)
This is awesome! I heard about this on NPR and thought it was so cool. They talked about people like your husband who had to give up on career dreams. They mentioned artist and pilots but I'd never thought about needing to see color to be an electrician.
Holy cow! That is freaking amazing. My dh has red/green color blindness. It isn't super severe but it can definitely be noticeable. I wonder if he could benefit from these. They are probably $$$ hanh?

Thank you for sharing this! It brought tears to my eyes. I shared the video with my cousin who is Red Green Color Defective and can't wait to see what he thinks. When he was about 16 he was with my Aunt who I guess never really got how bad his deficiency really is and she said look D isn't that hill pretty? It was all red and green flowers. And his respond was no Mom its not its all brown and dead.

My dad had to give up on his dream of flying. He could fly during the day but it was impossible at night with the runway lights. I also think he could have been a great artist. He was good at black/white photos and he's done some artwork, but not being able to see the whole spectrum must have been frustrating.
The video made me cry. The dad looking at his kid's artwork- how many times did I make him something and he hung it up at his desk, not knowing what it really looked like? How many times did we joke about his love of the color blue? Shit, it was probably the only vibrant color to him.
I may save up to buy him these, especially after hearing @licia's story about her H. We're taking my parents to Ireland at Christmas time and I want him to see all the green

Oh AMBERLY, you have to do this!! Even I would contribute to a GoFundMe to get your dad the glasses for Ireland, and everyone knows I have a cold black heart.

Awww you're the sweetest! I'll think about it but I want him to watch the video first, to see if he'd even be interested.
I just had a thought that you should take your H to Home Depot to look at all the paint color swatches. I love doing that myself. I can't imagine seeing that spectrum of color for the very first time.
Valspar actually sent a color book along with the glasses. He stood in the driveway with it open trying to find the red that matched my lipstick. The colors were all right next to each other and set so that, as a person without colorblindness, I could see it was sort of an eye test. All these squares of varying shades of pink, purple, orange, red, green, yellow.
And he could see them all. It was incredible.
I couldn't love your stories any more if I tried. I can't believe I haven't heard of Valspar doing this before. As a former "marketeer" ooh I would have loved to be all over this campaign!
