that a kid my kid has been around recently is sick?
I hate getting those calls or texts. It just makes me nervous for like a week, often for no reason.
We just vacationed with my cousin and her son, who I was just informed went home and was diagnosed with a nasty case of strep throat.
An hour ago my kids were dealing with teething/allergies and now I'm prepping myself for middle of the night fevers and an Urgent care visit tomorrow. Blarg.
I may be the weirdo here, but I don't tell my friends if my kid falls ill shortly after being around their children. I figure they'll notice if their children get sick anyway. I think its kind of rude to make them worry.
I'm speaking more to normal childhood illnesses, not rapidly spreading life threateners or anything.
Nope. I don't want to know either. I am a complete anxious mess when my kids are sick and pukey. Don't tell me and prolong the anxiety!
And I think a lot of people get overly bent out of shape about a typical cold. I mean, kids are snotty dirty creatures. They spread germs. I'm not keeping my kid home for 10 days (or longer because the sibling will inevitably catch it a few days later) from the park, or school, because they have a snotty nose. Fever? sure. but a cold? not so much.
Ugh! It usually takes about 5 days from exposure to strep for symptoms to start. I'm a teacher and if I know one of my students has exposed me to strep I will count 5 days and sure enough I end up with it too. Sucks. Hoping your little one feels better soon.
I'd rather not be anxious too in the lead up. I was feeling a little guilty though that I didn't let a friend know that baby C got really sick a few weeks ago right after we hung out. I figured she didn't need the extra anxiety as she's already a super anxious person and stresses out about everything like that. Her kid didn't get sick (whew
