Essential brushes?

Which brushes would you recommend for someone who hasn't paid much attention to makeup before? Not necessarily a specific brand, but types of brushes. I mostly wear mineral powder foundation, concealer, blush and eyeshadow (if that makes any difference). I know you said not to focus on a brand, but I started with this Sigma kit and from there got more based on my needs and what I thought I would use.

Even though I have other brushes, I do find myself reaching for these most often. So I think they put together a pretty good starting kit.

I don't use the liner brush often, but that's because I prefer liquid liners with the brush in them. Otherwise I think it's a great kit. And I love the brush holder - great for traveling or even storing them if you don't have a lot of dedicated space for makeup.

I agree with Sigma brushes. I bought a small set (the Jaclyn Hill set) and add from there. I prefer the full sizes to the travel sizes, but that is just my preference. Their shadow brushes are wonderful. I much prefer than to my Mac brushes.
