Has anyone been to any AI resorts? I know there are quite a few of them. We aren't sure at this point where we are going, but are looking for a tropical AI destination the Thursday-Sunday before Thanksgiving.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Side note: we are two adults/no children
TIA!
*we looked at the Nikki Beach AI resort in Turks/Cacaos, but I hear it closed down...so that seems out.

We've been to three Sandals ( Grande St Lucian, Grande Antiguan and Negril) as well as The Royal (Real Resorts) in Cancun. All AI all adults only. I have reviews in a link below my user name(the little icon that looks like a house).
We really liked The Jewel Dunns River Falls in Jamaica. It was our first AI, though, so we have nothing to compare it to. We liked that it was small ( only about 250 rooms I think). Staff was great pretty much a whatever you want" attitude. one even went up in a palm tree to get us a coconut so we could have fresh coconut water :-) .. Food was good, and they had I think 4 restaurants to pick from, plus a buffet and a brick oven pizza place. One night they did Dinner on the Pier for everyone- a nice several course meal, like a wedding. Just a really nice place :-) I hesitated booking it bc I has never heard of it... But reading reviews on tripadvisor sold me :-)
Jamaica- couples negril or in ochos rios couple san souci
St. Luica- body holiday
dominican republic- excellence punta cana, royal suits turquesa (this is a palladium hotel it is huge but one section the turquesa section is adults only...and awesome...YOU get to use all other properties and rest. but they cant use yours so that is a nice bonus)
we are not fans of sandals resorts so we avoid them
Mmm the El Dorado in Riviera Maya that the PP mentioned is so beautiful.
We've gone to the Barcelo Maya resort in Riviera Maya several times. It's our home away from home. They have different price tiers- its like 5 little resorts on one property. The "highest" end one- The Palace- is our favorite bc its fairly quiet and has an adults only pool. You still do have access to the other resorts on the property if you stay at the Palace but not vice versa.
Another Couples resort lover here. I love Couples Negril. If you are willing to spend a bit more, I'd check out Le Blanc or Caves in Negril. Both are top notch and worth every penny.
Secrets Maroma Beach, Riveria Maya (PP suggested Capri as well; the only Secrets I'd avoid in RM-area is Silversands. We've had family go to all 3 resorts and said they strongly advise against Silversands)
Iberostar Grand Paraiso, Riveria Maya (Iberostar is one resort with several different tiered hotels. Grand Paraiso is the most expensive and adults only, but well worth the cost increase)
Iberostar Grand Bavaro, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (same as above)

Can you tell me a little more about Iberostar Grand Bavaro? It's on our short list along with Secrets Maroma.

I apologize if I was misleading, but we actually haven't been. My SIL HMed there in July 2009 and absolutely loved it. They raved about it so much that my ILs vacationed there in March 2010. My ILs said they downfall was that bc it was Spring Break, if they weren't at the beach/pool by 9am, they really got chairs bc the resort was so crowded. SIL said they had no issues with this in July.
If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to ask them for you
I've been to secrets maroma beach and le blanc spa resort in Mexico. I'd go back to either in a heart beat
Which did you prefer? We are debating between these resorts for a girls trip. We are all in our early 30s with kids, so we aren't looking to party hard, just have some low key fun and relax.
- The Royal Cancun, which we loved. Great all around.
- The Royal Playa del Carmen, which I did NOT like. So bizarre that the experiences were so vastly different.
- Zoetry Agua in Punta Cana. It was ok - not great, not horrible. I think they were experiencing some major growing pains and management didn't have it all under control.
- Some hotels/resorts in Costa Rica and Fiji that included meals but no alcohol.
We are scheduled to go to Excellence Playa Mujeres in December and The Caves in Negril in March. Looking forward to both of those!

i just commented in the other AI post about the 2. It's hard to say which you'd prefer. Le blanc is much more low-key and spa-like. You can relax just as well at SMB, but it is a bit more lively I think.

I'll give another vote to El Dorado Royale in Riviera Maya. We stayed there this past April and we are planning on going back in February because we loved it so much. The grounds were beautiful and the staff was awesome.
