I was looking for dance recital makeup ideas, since Amelia's pictures are next week and recital is next month. I tried out some makeup on her, and she went from baby to clown reeeeeaaally fast (although she loved it). I was googling tutorials, and this was #1. The eyes, OMG THE EYES!
I have refused to put makeup on my baby for any of her recitals, partly because I know from experience that it doesn't really make that big a difference and partly because I am a crotchety old woman at heart. Oh, and partly because I am lazy.
I will say I've never seen eyes that dark on any of the young girls at the various dance recitals in which DD has participated. The lipstick, though? Yes, although more often I see tinted lip gloss.
That's some odd colored lipstick to use. The dance recital photos I've seen on FB have all had BRIGHT lipsticks. Not old goth lipstick. And why not do the tutorial on a child?
Lol. What was that? It looked like it was her first time ever using makeup. Well besides the fact that she applied lipstick over the lipstick already on her face and only reapplied on her top lip.

I agree on the lipstick, weird choice. I think the eye make up is pretty standard for what I've seen on my friends' girls (not little girls, but 9ish and up).
Dance make-up looks very heavy because it has to show through the bright stage lights. I wouldn't use that dark of eye color or lip color, but you definitely want to put more on her face than you would on your self for a normal day out.
I started dancing at 4 and all through high school. In HS, I danced with a ballet folklorico troupe and this is what my performance make-up looked like (not me, of course). Yowza! Clown!!

I hate the look of eye makeup on Amelia. For the recital, I won't mind putting blush on her, or some lip gloss, but I probably won't do anything on her eyes.
She is obsessed with "doing her brows" and that's what she always sneaks first when going into my bathroom. Unfortunately, she thinks that applying mascara all over her forehead is doing her brows. I put some light brown eyeshadow in her white-blonde eyebrows yesterday during our trial run, and she kept staring at herself and fawning over her eyebrows.

That's nothing compared to what we did at my studio growing up. We had a prescribed uniform look: Pancake makeup. Bright blush to the hairline. White on the eyelids with dark brown in the crease, winged out. Black liner with a double wing, about 1/2" out from the corner of the eye. White cream shadow in between the wings to emphasize them. False eyelashes (starting in middle school). Red lipstick (the studio bought one particular shade from Avon by the carton). No glitter.
Lol. I used to dance also and I realize what stage makeup entails. This "tutorial" is poorly executed. I'm pretty sure my dog can apply eyeliner better than that.

I still can't believe she just patted some eyeshadow on, with absolutely no blending. The liner application was something else.
It's really hard to put makeup on a 3 year old. I'd say it's like putting makeup on a cat, but I did that as a child and a cat is much easier to apply makeup to LOL.

YASSSS. Abby was 3 last year for her first dance recital and we had to do full stage makeup. Thank GOD we didn't have to do false lashes like the older than preschool age girls. Mascara was hell enough.
I didn't watch the video but the lipstick color our studio wants us to use is a very dark brick red. I wish they'd let us use the same color as the girls that compete for the studio... they use Candy Yum Yum!
