English actress Natalie Dormer, 33, knows her way around a corset. She has played pivotal roles on “The Tudors” and as the clever Margaery Tyrell on “Game of Thrones,” which is back for Season 5 on Sunday. Ms. Dormer has also had screen roles in “Rush,” “The Hunger Games” series and the coming horror film “Patient Zero.” Born in Reading, England, she has lived in London since she was 18.
Skin Care
If I’m shooting that morning, the first things that go on my face (especially if I’d been to an event the night before and had one too many glasses of Champagne) are these Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels by Skyn Iceland. They help tame the puffiness.
At the moment, I love the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster. It’s got a vitamin C complex in it, and I’ve been putting that on every morning and night.
I’m a Brit, so I’ll always have some Molton Brown and the Body Shop products. I also like this great body oil by Ila that I put under my moisturizer if my skin is very dry. I saw that when I was filming “Game of Thrones” in Morocco. The women of that country love their argan oil, and I picked up the idea of putting on an oil or oily serum before moisturizer.
At night, I do more. Right now I’m shooting “Patient Zero,” and we’re running around with this face gel makeup. The best way to take it off is Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm. I rub it all over my face, then use a flannel to wipe off the makeup. I’ll do the Henriksen serum and then Cowshed Quinoa moisturizer.
And for years I’ve loved the Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque. It’s amazing if you’ve been on one too many long-haul flights. Or like when I was training for the London Marathon. I ran it last year. I was doing some running when I was in New York. The wind coming off the Hudson River is incredible. Your face takes a battering. This is super-hydrating for situations like that. Old-fashioned Vaseline is great for lips, and I’ll put a little under my bra straps if I’m doing long runs to stop the friction.
Makeup
La Prairie’s Skin Caviar is my foundation. I adore it. It’s got an SPF 15, but if I’m somewhere with bright sun, I’ll put on a stronger SPF around my eyes, on my cheekbones and the end of my nose. Natura Bissé makes a good one called Diamond White, with an SPF 50. Make Up For Ever concealer is also magic. I always have one in my bag.
When it comes to eyebrows, I’m a MAC girl. I use the pencil, and I’ve been using the MAC Fluidline liner for years. I have very particularly shaped almondy eyes, so I have trouble finding mascara that doesn’t drop on me. The Clinique High Impact mascara doesn’t bleed.
For the rest, I’m a little bit of a flirt. Maybe I’ll be working with a makeup artist who has a relationship with Nars or Lancôme, and I’ll use those things. I just got some beautiful eye shadow palettes from Lancôme. They’re color-coordinated, so it’s easy. When I’m not working, I’m not a lip girl. I might go for a stain, but that’s about it.
Fragrance
My signature scent is the old Gucci by Gucci before they reimagined it. I was really upset when they discontinued it. But my sister’s boyfriend is in the navy, and he managed to find, like, six bottles on the U.S. base in Bahrain. He sent me a text, and I told him to buy all of them. He’s a British naval officer, and there he is at the U.S. station and buying up all the Gucci bottles. I’ve got maybe two years’ worth of it now.
Hair
I had to shave a side of my hair for “The Hunger Games,” and I’m trying to grow it out. I’m taking Solgar Wild Alaskan omega capsules so it’ll grow in strong. I think it’s working. I’ve got a couple inches growing on my undercut. I’m not picky about shampoo, but I love the Fekkai hair mask. My color is actually completely natural: a dirty blond. I’ve got Norwegian blood.
Services
I have an amazing masseuse, and I see her probably once a week. As an actor, you end up with all these different strains. Maybe I’ve been squeezed to death in a corset, or when I was doing “Mockingjay 2,” I was carrying a big semiautomatic rifle over my shoulder, and it made me really lopsided.
I also treat myself at home. It’s important to get a foam roller and really limber yourself up. I love Tiger Balm and Epsom salt for when I’m running.
Diet and Fitness
In Britain, they teach a yoga lesson every day when you’re in drama school. It’s mandatory if you’re doing classical training. The idea is to break things down physically as well as emotionally. There will always be a yoga mat in my luggage, period.
Running is my second source of exercise. For me, it’s more of a mental exercise. It’s also a good way of discovering a new city. I hope to run the New York City Marathon in November.
I’m pretty balanced in what I eat. I also drink a ton of water. The old rules are the best rules. Every woman knows that. And I love to sleep. I can catch an extra 20 minutes anywhere. I always say Dormer, dormir, it’s very similar.
The Ole Henriksen Truth Serum is the best thing I've ever tried. I've been using it for a year, along with the Truth Crème moisturizer, and this was the first winter that my face was not a dry, flaky, mess.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
