And though it has some hat shape to it, I feel like it is just going to be a giant floppy mess to end with. Right now it is looking more like a deformed flying saucer. Or bowl shaped more so. I feel like it's going to look like an over sized Jewish Yamaka, where it just sits on your head instead of hugs your head.
Am I following a pattern that will turn into a hat or funky bowl/yamaka/non head hugging saucer?

I made a stuffed snowman which started with increasing and then decreasing rounds. It looked really floppy and sad, and then like a yarmulke, and then it shaped up and looked right. Keep going.

But am I decreasing rows at all in this? I know it says to go back to a single crochet instead of the single crochet + 2 singles in one stitch. But I'm not sure if the single crochet does any decreasing.
This is the first time I'm actually learning off of a written pattern. I learned to do the stars from a youtube video.

There were several rows where I didn't decrease or increase, I just did the same number of stitches; that is when everything started to come together and look normal. If you are making a hat (beanie?) you shouldn't be decreasing. Sorry I should have been more clear!
